From Movie “Nikaah”

Introduction: -

The Fakeer of Jungheera is a long poem by Henry Louis Vivian Derozio. He was born on 18th April, 1809 in Kolkata, West Bengal. He wrote many wonderful poems in English before his untimely death of which, the “Fakeer of Jungheera” was one of the most important landmark in the history of patriotic poetry in India.

Nuleeni; a beautiful Woman.

Recently becomes “widow”.

Forced to become “Sati”.

Character Sketch Of “Nuleeni” : -

“Song of Chorus women”

“Happy! Thrice happy thus early to leave Earth

and its sorrows, for heaven and

its bliss!”

“Her one last hope” .

“Come, like the tempest gathering on – The crowd is broke, the

victim won!...”

“Nuleeni’s eye is not upon the

dead, To one after her parting

thoughts have fled….”

Few similes used for “Nuleeni”“And she, that lonely victim,

stands the while Like a pale flower besides the

funeral pile.”

“What though the rose has

vanished from her cheek,

Her eye speaks more

than ever tongue may

speak…”

“With darksome grief her brow was gently bowed

Like a pale broken lily…”

What “Nuleeni “ in Eye of “Fakeer”?

“Beats not my heart reply to thine,

And clasp I not my pearl, my flower,

My star – the precious all that mine…”

“Believe them not my gentle Love!No vulture here shall scare my

dove……”

“My best Beloved, my most adored, If thus our joy must early die?”

Her “Hope” Defeats upon her “Fear”.

‘Fakeer’ Speaks: -

“Nuleeni compared with newly married “Bride”: -

“Her arms is raised, so round, so fair, so delicate, it looks as

‘twereMade of soft moonbeams; on her cheek, the blushes burn, and breath, and speak; The smile comes from her ruby

lips Like the Sun rushing from eclipse…..”

“They died as a Warrior”.

“The light of his eye was passing away,Like the sun’s pale beams on a stormy

day,The beat of his heart waxed faint and

slow, And for him nigh hushed was all moral

woe;His brow was cold as despair may be,

And the struggling spirit at last was free”.

Modern Woman proved with her step.

Tragic but satisfactory end with her Lover; “Fakeer”.

Thank You & Farewell
