Townes Construction Co., Inc. is located in Grenada, MS and is owned and operated by Mr. Armstead Townes III. Established in 1979, the firm offers services such as Grading, Landscaping & Beautification, Highway Drainage, Irrigation Systems, Manufactured Concrete, Asphalt Infrared as well as Hauling, Dirt, Sand, Gravel, Limestone Asphalt. Townes Construction Co., Inc. has been in business for 36 years and a DBE for 25 years. Built on years of experience, the firm takes pride in its Manufactured Concrete, Grading, Hauling, and Landscaping capabilities. Mr. Townes’ management team includes Estella Townes (Office Mgr.), Jimmy Townes (Plant Mgr.), and Jeffery Townes (Field Mr.). Townes Construction Co., Inc. has completed projects throughout Mississippi, Georgia, Arkansas, and Louisiana. In addition, the firm has worked with prime contractors such as Lehman-Roberts, APAC of MS, Malouf Construction, B&M Paving, Endevco, JJ Ferguson, as well as D. Carroll Construction. Currently, the firm is working with AMG Construction on projects located in Clarksdale, MS and Quitman County (Crowder, MS). Although job experience is important, most successful businesses (big or small) have something that distinguishes them from other companies. Mr. Townes shared the qualities that make his company unique. “We have 36 years of experience in the business, we are reliable, we make it our business to listen, understand and be flexible to the needs of the customer,” said Mr. Townes. Owning a small business can be trying at times but with perseverance it can also be rewarding. Mr. Townes offered a word of advice to DBEs and small business owners in general. Geotechnical Engineering Services, Statewide
The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) proposes to execute a Master Contract(s) with firms for the purpose of providing Geotechnical engineering services, Statewide, consisting of: subsurface drilling on land or from a barge, standard penetration testing (SPT) using energy-calibrated automatic SPT-hammer (required in Districts 1, 2, 3, and 5), cone penetrometer testing (CPT), laboratory testing of disturbed and undisturbed samples, and PDA monitoring or static load testing of piling. In addition to field and laboratory testing, the engineering firm will produce geotechnical design reports that include: generalized soil profiles stratified by engineering properties (Unified Soil Classification System) as well as geological formation for insertion into the final construction plans, analysis and design of bridge foundations and/or retaining wall foundations, analysis and design of embankments or slopes. The Master Contract will utilize Cost plus Fixed Fee, Labor Hour/Unit Price, or Firm Fixed Price Work Assignments. The terms of a Master Contract for a selected consultant will not exceed 31/2 years with an estimated maximum contract amount of up to five (5) million dollars; however, MDOT may elect to execute a contract for a lesser not to exceed amount. Selected consultants may be assigned Work Assignments throughout the Master Contract term. Work Assignments will be assigned based on MDOT’s standard operating procedures.
To be considered, the “Expression of Interest” proposal must respond to all requirements of this RFI and any addenda. The recommended proposal length should not exceed twenty-five (25) pages, exclusive of appendices. The resumes (which should not exceed 2 pages per individual in length), SF-330 Part II, proof of State Licensure and certificates requirements, proof of laboratory accreditation, and other information not relevant to the requirements should be included in the appendices. The Consultant’s cover letter, table of contents, summaries and introductions, team organizational chart, past performances, and any other responses to the evaluation criteria should be included in the 25 pages.
Consulting engineering firms (CONSULTANT) interested in providing these services may so indicate by furnishing the Department seven (7) copies and one (1) CD of an Expression of Interest which should consist of the following unless specifically stated otherwise:
