- What is differentiated instruction? Differentiated instruction
is the way in which a teacher anticipates and responds to a variety
of student needs in the classroom. To meet student needs, teachers
differentiate by modifying the content (what is being taught), the
process (how it is taught) and the product (how students
demonstrate their learning). Source:

- Polleverywhere.com A Tool To use in DI You will have the
opportunity to answer four poll questions. As you work through
these questions, see if you can create some ideas of how you would
use this tool in the classroom. http://www.polleverywhere.com/
- Slide 5
- Lets Talk about the answers The purpose of this session is to
provide you with helpful tips and quick strategies to use when
differentiating and individualizing instruction. If you feel as if
you were left wanting, we would love to speak with you afterwards.
What did the polleverywhere.com answers reveal to you?

- Why Differentiate Instruction (DI)?
- Slide 7
- Reasons teachers give for not differentiating instruction I
teach too many students. I dont have the time to implement these
ideas.

- Learning Styles Student choice in assessment matches their
learning style. Take a learning style inventory yourself. Here's a
sample learning style inventory! Here's a sample learning style

- Differentiating By Flipping the Classroom The Content Stays the
same. This is the content you would normally teach during your
class time. The Process The process changes since you are teaching
using video. Students watch the video as homework, thereby freeing
up class time to explore the content in a deeper way. The Product
Students can demonstrate their learning any way you wish, so this
changes as well.

- A Word About Special Education Special Education students often
benefit from differentiated output. This means changing the product
and getting creative about how they show their learning. Often when
content is being taught, special education students do not exhibit
behaviors which show they are learning, though they often are. This
is especially true about autistic students. Changing the product
takes more time and creativity, however the payoff is watching
special education students engage in class with other students. A
side benefit is that your school will earn more credit with the
state when special education programing is assessed.

- For example The kinesthetic learner can ACT OUT CHARADES
DEMONSTRATING A CONCEPT. Chatterpix app is good for combining all
three learning styles into a lesson. The visual learner can
BLABBERIZE! (blabberize.com)
- Slide 16
- More examples The aural learner can record themselves or others
using AUDACITY (a personal favorite of mine) The tactile learner
can USE PLAYDOUGH TO SIMULATE LANDFORMS ON A MAP IN SOCIAL STUDIES.
IPADS APPS ARE ALSO GREAT! stack the states / stack the countries

- More Resources for individualizing and differentiating
instruction! Differentiation can be quick and easy. Goal: Use just
one tool or strategy you have learned today in the next 30 days!
