Metonymy

The metonymy cons is ts o f substitution of one element for another which holds a relationship.

Cause by effect Envy = Scratched car

Author by it’s work

Arman = Paintings made with objects

Instrument by user Milk = person who drinks it

Product by producer Sports apparel = Logo

Object by place of origin

Tea = China

Synecdoche

The Synecdoche is a form of metonymy in which the whole is r e p r e s e n t e d b y i t ’s m o s t significant part.

Material / Conceptual

Whole by its parts:

Jazz = String Instrument

Art = Paint brushes

Instrument = Central part with circle (material synecdoche)

Vodka = Bottle

Geneva = Swiss watches

Whole by its parts:

Watch = machinery (material synecdoche)

Metaphor

Consist of using an expression with a different meaning or in a different context that usual

It’s a symbolic representation of the m a i n i d e a t h a t w a n t s t o b e communicated using two images that have no direct relationship but have posses some similarity

Hyperbole

It’s used to make a part of an object more evident or to exaggerate the most important elements

Personification

Attributes human qualities to animals or objects

Oxymoron

It’s the use of contrary elements

Antiphrasis

Uses the text or legend c o n t r a r y t o w h a t i s represented in the image
