Liebherr Design Elements Guidelines 2
Structuring and designing appealing content
Whether for flyers, invitations or brochures, the crucial element in publications besides content is a consistent design that has recognition value. Publications with a consistent design strengthen the Liebherr brand and shape a clear brand identity. Precise specifications on the use of tables, highlight elements and info boxes, for example, as well as the use and positioning of images are intended to help you create the publication in question.
The following pages give a detailed explanation of the various design elements. • Tables• Highlights• Info boxes• Teasers• Image labels
The basis is identical for all publications, only the font sizes and spacings need to be adapted for different formats, according to reading habits. In addition, at the end of the explanation for each design element, you will find a table summarizing all the important data for said element.
Liebherr Design Elements Guidelines 3
Table design element
General specifications• A distinction is made between text-heavy tables and
tables primarily containing technical data.• The table width is defined by the columns available in
the basic grid. The minimum width is equal to one col-umn of the basic grid. However, the width of a table can amount to the width of all columns on one page.
• The text in the tables is not aligned with the basic grid.• The height of the header row and subsequent rows in
tables can be found in the summary table on page 6.

Technical tables1 Table heading: Helvetica Neue LT 77 Bold Condensed.
The font size can be found in the summary table on page 6.
2 The text in the columns is indented to the right by a set value. This value can be found in the summary table on page 6.
3 The table may have no heading at all, in which case it starts with a gray row.
4 Alternate rows are gray (20 % black) and white.5 If, due to the content of the table, it would be useful to
delimit the columns, they may be separated by a thin line (30 % black).
6 The heading is always white, separated from the row below by a line (30 % black). This means the table always starts cleanly on a new row. The line thicknesses can be found in the summary table on page 6.
7 The first row after the heading has a white background.8 The heading is preceded by a vertical colored line. The
thickness of this line is defined by the font size of the table text x 0.1. The height is the same as that of the first row in the table or pictogram, if present.
9 Every table ends with a horizontal closing line (30 % black).
10 If the table is accompanied by explanatory text that directly refers / adds to the table, this should be in the same font and font size as the text in the table and justified.
Other specifications • Technical tables are used to display and structure tech-
nical data.• If necessary, the font size can be reduced to 75 % of
the original size, provided this is applied uniformly for all data tables in the document.
• The height of the highlight line is the same as that of the first row in the table. The width is the font size of the table text in mm x 0.1.
• The column widths in a table can be selected freely, if necessary.
• For pages containing tables only, each table has its own heading.

Table design element
UseText-heavy tables are used to present data and larger amounts of text in a clearer and more structured manner.
Text-heavy tables1 Table heading: Helvetica Neue LT 75 Bold.2 Table text: Helvetica Neue LT 45 Light or Bold for
emphasis. 3 Text on one row: The text is inside the cells and
centered vertically.4 The individual rows of the table are separated from one
another by thin lines (30 % black). The corresponding line thicknesses can be found in the summary table on page 6.
5 The columns are not delimited by vertical lines.6 Minimum row height: 3.5 mm.7 For the highlight height and thickness, see page 8. 8 Spacing from pictogram to line / heading:
Double line space.9 Pictogram size: 6 mm high (proportional width).
Other specifications • The font size for each publication can be found in the
summary table on page 6.• The table does not need a heading.• The table heading can be preceded by a highlight if
desired; pages containing tables only must have highlights.
• If there are two hierarchy levels, the first level must be bold.

Highlight Helvetica Neue LT77 Bold Condensed, 24 / 30 pt
Highlight design element
UseA highlight structures and divides the page by identifying the key information. It is always used in combination with text and in different ways: As an intro to start a new topic or as a summary of the key points in a text. The highlight line can also be used in the header row in tables.
DesignThe highlight is characterized by a yellow / blue vertical line defined as follows: 1 The highlight is used together with the fonts Helvetica
Neue LT 75 Bold and Helvetica Neue LT 77 Bold Condensed.
2 Highlight width: Font size in pt = mm x 0.1 ➝ Example: 24 pt = 24 mm x 0.1 = 2.4 mm wide.
3 Spacing to the text: Twice the width of the line Example: Width = 2.4 mm, spacing between line and text = 4.8 mm.
4 Highlight height: Font size in pt = mm x 0.75 Example: 24 pt = 24 mm x 0.75 = 18 mm high.
Other specifications• A maximum of four highlights are permitted per page.• If the highlight refers to an image, it should be directly
next to said image, with one row of spacing before or after.
• If the highlight refers to a passage of text, it should be directly next to said passage, with one row of spacing before and after.
• If multiple highlights are next to one another, the individual highlights should be positioned within the column grid.
• The width of the highlights can vary depending on the length and in accordance with the different column widths.

Point 2
Point 3
Design 1 The info box starts with a colored line that spans the
entire width of the design element. The line is the same width as the horizontal line in the footer.
2 If the info box is on an image, it is white with an opacity of 80 %. The area of the box directly adjoins the under-side of the colored line.
3 If the info box is on a white background, the bottom is bordered by an additional line (100 % black, line thickness as per the table).
4 The text inside the info box begins a set distance (= column spacing of the relevant publication) away from the top and left, see the table below.
5 The last row of text in the info box is followed by a specified spacing, see the table below. ➝ If the box contains multiple languages, the height of the box depends on the longest language.
6 The fonts used should be Helvetica Neue LT Condensed Light and Bold.
Info box on the title pageOn the title page, the info box is located either at the top right or left in the image, one row beneath the edge of the image.
Other specifications• The width of the info box depends on the available col-
umns in the basic grid of the relevant publication. • If necessary, the width of the info box can extend across
one or multiple columns. The minimum and maximum widths for each publication are listed in the summary table below.
• If an info box directly precedes or follows a passage of text, there must be one row of spacing between them.
• The font in the info box is not aligned with the baseline grid.
• The height of the info box can be adapted as required.

Design and positioning1 The teaser is positioned inside the column grid, prefer-
ably on the left- or right-hand edge of the print space. 2 It is possible to position the teaser so that it bleeds off the page.3 The width of the teaser is determined by the columns
of the basic grid of the relevant format. The possible widths are listed in the table below. The gutter can also be used in combination with the column width to create an intermediate size. If the teaser is bled-off, the width increases by the width of the relevant page margin.
4 The height of the teaser is determined for each format. The exact values can be found in the table below.
5 Helvetica Neue LT 75 Bold or Helvetica Neue LT 77 Bold Condensed should be used as the font. The choice of font must be consistent within the same publication. The font size is adapted to the relevant format, see the table below.
6 The text begins a set distance away from the left-hand edge of the teaser. The spacings for each format can be found in the table below.
Teaser on the title page• On the title page, the teaser starts at the top edge of the
image, one row of the baseline grid beneath the edge of the image.
• In addition, the text inside the teaser is not bound by the baseline grid.
• When combined with an info box on the title page, the teaser is positioned above the info box. The width of the teaser then matches that of the info box.
Other specifications• The text in the teaser is aligned with the baseline grid.• The text inside the teaser may run on one or two rows;
for brochures and flyers it can run onto a third row. • The spacing to another element or passage of text on
the page should be at least the same as the line thick-ness of the horizontal line in the footer.
• Multiple teasers on the same page should all have the same width.

Use of captions • Additional descriptive text can be added to an image in
the form of a caption. • The use of captions should be handled consistently for
each publication.• In addition to images, graphic drawings can also be
used. If necessary, these can also be provided with a caption.
Use of labels In addition to a standard caption, it is also possible to label certain sections of an image. This is possible in two ways: A Labeling the image using lines.B Labeling the image using white circles with a yellow
outline.
Design1 The caption or label should be in Helvetica Neue LT 45
Light. The font size for the respective publications can be found in the table on page 13.
2 For more precise labeling, lines in 100% black can also be used. The line thickness is specified for each format and the thicknesses for each publication are listed in the summary table on page 13. The lines run in parallel with or perpendicular to the baseline grid. The associated text is either centered, left- or right-aligned to the line.
Labeling graphics• Graphics are labeled and captioned in Helvetica Neue
LT 47 Condensed or Helvetica Neue LT 77 Bold Con-densed, both 8 / 12 pt.
• The label does not have to be bound by the grid.
Other specificationsCaptions are left-aligned directly beneath or alongside the image. The first row starts in line with the baseline grid.
