Denver PRIDE Parade: June 16
June is Pride Month. We will be marching in the Denver Pride Parade along with our UCC sister churches! The parade begins at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 16. We will know in the next week our order in the line so we know when we need to be there. Carpool times will be announced in advance. We will not have worship at the Kirk, but will gather for worship with 6th Ave. UCC located at 3250 E. 6th Ave. at 10 a.m. *Last year we began a partnership with Wash Park and 6th Ave. that on Pride Sunday between the three churches one worship service would be held so the other two clergy could attend Pride. Last year the Kirk hosted, this year it is 6th's turn.
Pride T-Shirts
This year we will be selling custom Pride t-shirts in honor of Pride
month. These shirts are perfect for the Pride Parade or for other
church events like Food Truck Nights. Shirts are available in unisex,
ladies, and youth sizes and are $22 each. Payment can be made by
cash, check, or online on the Kirk’s donation page. Order forms,
including a size chart, are available at the back of the Sanctuary.
The deadline to order a shirt in time for the Pride Parade is
Sunday, June 9.
Pentecost
Sunday, June 9 is Pentecost. Pentecost is the birthday of the
church, through the coming of the Holy Spirit. We celebrate this
by wearing red on this Sunday.
After worship we will have an all church BBQ to celebrate church
and our community. Burgers (and vegetarian burgers) will be on
the grill. All are invited to bring sides to share.

June 23: Rivers of Creation, Genesis 1:1-10, Genesis 2:4b-14
June 30: Flooding Rivers, Genesis 7
Throughout the summer we will follow the river of life throughout the Bible from Genesis through
Revelation. Water is a rich and powerful symbol that not only sustains life but holds great power to heal and
destroy. Be a part of our summer series as we gather down by the riverside to be refreshed and renewed.

Kirk Book Group
Our book group will not meet in June or July but will resume in
August. If you are looking for some books this summer consider:
The Art of Gathering by Priya Parker, Searching for Sunday by Rachel
Held Evans or Resist and Persist by Erin Wathen. If you read any of
these, let Selena know as small groups will be gathering to discuss
many of these themes in the coming months.
Theology on Tap
We will gather at Brightmarten at 730 South University from
4-6 p.m. on Sunday, June 23. We will be discussing baptism and
the power of water as a part of our summer series: Down by
the Riverside. What does baptism mean to you? What does it
mean to God? Is the form of baptism fixed or flexible? How
does this answer impact the church universal? Come be a part
of the conversation.
Conversations With Scripture
We gather every Tuesday in the choir room from 2-3 p.m. to engage
with our holy text. In June we will be studying 2 Corinthians.
Graduation Sunday
Sunday, June 9 during worship we will recognize our 2019 graduates
from high school and college. If you are a graduate, or have a graduate
in your immediate family, please let the church office know by June 2 so
we can celebrate this accomplishment!

Year of Water: Troubled Waters Screening
On Earth Day 2019 our Green Justice Team ended our Year of Trees and
began a focus on a Year of Water. As a part of this time of education and
action we will be screening a UCC produced film, Troubled Waters after
worship on June 30 from 11:30-1 p.m. There will be an eco-friendly lunch
of beans and rice provided as well as childcare. The film is 60 minutes
long and then we will conclude with a discussion.
All are welcome to join us.
Jackie is on Sabbatical
Our Minister of Children and Youth, Jackie Kendal-Gebel is
enjoying a time of rest and rejuvenation. She is on sabbatical
until Sunday, June 30. If you have any needs please contact the
office or Selena. It is important that we give her this much
needed time to connect with her family and with God and do not
contact her during this time.
Food Trucks
June 11, 5:30-8 p.m. – Community Table
June 25, 5:30-8 p.m. – Movie Night in the Community Room
It is that time again! The Kirk will be hosting Food Trucks for our
church and our neighborhood throughout the summer! We will be
setting up a Community Table for people to sit at and get to know
one another! If you are able to come early to set-up or take down
the tables and chairs, please let Selena know. We hope all of the Kirk
will join us as we build community with each other and our
neighbors. (Didn’t Jesus say something about neighbors?!) Oh yes,
lets love our neighbors together!
*Thanks to Diane and Joe Berry and Ellen and Rusty Campos for
selling beer and wine at these events!!!

Sacred Conversations Update
During the month of May, twenty Kirk folks attended the
IAF relational meeting as the first step in our process to
engaging in Sacred Conversations. Part of this event
included a training to engage in dialogue with one
another and our hope is to spread these conversations
throughout our congregation. So don’t be surprised if
someone asks you to have coffee sometimes soon. As we
build relationships and enter into sacred conversations
we will strengthen our relationships and thereby
strengthen our church. If you would like to be a part of
this continued effort to learn about and provide safe
space for sacred
Interfaith Camp
This week-long camp will be held at five different places of
worship. Mornings will be spent with members from the host
community, where the kids will learn about their traditions, rituals
and beliefs in fun and interactive ways. You would be responsible
to get your child to each location by 9am every morning, and
picked up by 12pm. Once registration is closed, we will provide
participating families with location details. We expect children to
be at camp every day, as we believe that the community they build
and experience is as important, if not more important, than the
actual content of the camp. Campers should wear clothing that is
comfortable and modest. We will also provide space and time for
prayer. Snacks will be provided, with care taken to ensure that
dietary needs are met. Register online here. – then search
“interfaith youth camp” to pull up registration.

and Retreat Center in the Black Forest where we will sing, worship, play,
discuss, explore, swim, hike, laugh and much more!
We have reserved a cabin and two yurts and there is an option for tent
camping. Cost is dependent on which accommodation you choose. The cost is
$60 per tent, $100 to share a yurt, $150 for a bed in a cabin. The church is
hoping to subsidize all children 12 and under to make this affordable for our
families. If you need scholarship assistance, please talk to Selena.

Strengthen the Church Offering
“We have chosen to act on the belief the Church is most like the Church when it is rooted in the gospel,
remembering the worship in the sanctuary and present in the streets, the City Council chambers, the State
House, and the places of power witnessing the message of Love and Justice. Your support of our ministry
emboldens, empowers, and allows us to step in our faith. We are grateful beyond words—both for the
money and for the faith and prayers the money represents, without which we would not be able to do our
work. Thanks be to God!”
- Rev. Dr. Rebecca Voelkel, Center for Sustainable Justice at Lyndale UCC
Each Pentecost, we celebrate the church as we have
known it, the church we are, and the church that we can
be, together. We can lean on the story of connecting
across difference and listen to the languages of hope
spoken in the name of God. One of the ways our
covenant is lived out tangibly is through the Strengthen
the Church offering! Through this offering, we are able
to contribute to the continued expansion and
revitalization of the United Church of Christ. 50 percent
of your offering stays in your local conference, and 50
percent is sent to the national work of strengthening
the church universally, through grants towards new
church starts, inspiring youth and young adults into
leadership, and equipping pastors for ministry in the
21st century. Please join us in common mission, vision,
and purpose by taking up the Strengthen the Church
offering on June 9th, 2019!
One Great Hour of Sharing
Thank you to everyone who donate to our One Great Hour of Sharing collection.
Through your generosity, the Kirk was able to collect $817.21 for this special
offering. Thank you!

Dear Kirk,
Why Water? We have had many different seasonal themes over these last few years and you might be won-
dering why for the summer months we are talking about water? What does water have to do with my daily
life? What does water have to do with my call to bring about the kindom of God on earth as it is in heaven?
What can water teach me about God?
I hope you are asking these questions and more. The best way for me to answer them is to say: “everthing.”
Just begin to pay attention to how often you come in contact with water throughout the day. From your
morning shower to drinking water to washing dishes and brushing your teeth, water flows through our lives
and so too through the biblical narrative. As I was choosing scriptures I found that we could extend this series
for a year, not just a summer! (We won’t but we could!). Water has much to teach us about God, about our
vulnerability, our connectedness and I look forward to all that we will learn this summer!
With hope for our spirits to be refreshed,
Selena
