The Connected ClassroomBy infusing technology into the classroom environment, teachers have an opportunity to engage students in new ways and enhance the learning process. The Dell™ Connected Classroom helps simplify learning and make technology easy to use. It empowers teachers with the latest tools – such as Dell OptiPlex™ desktops and Dell Latitude™ laptops with 2nd generation Intel® Core™ processors – and professional skills necessary to create a rich, interactive learning environment in which students can more effectively prepare for success in the digital age.
The Connected InfrastructureAt many schools, a significant proportion of the IT budget is spent on day-to-day maintenance of outdated computers, servers and storage systems that perform slowly and consume excessive amounts of energy. That leaves less budget for new, innovative classroom technologies. The Connected Infrastructure offers a pragmatic approach to drive greater operational and cost efficiencies through standardisation, simplification and automation. By transforming the data centre – partly through the deployment of Intel® Xeon® processor based servers – school leaders can reduce maintenance costs and free up resources for classroom technology that positively impacts teaching and learning.

School saves on hardware with new infrastructure.Ranked as one of the best schools in the United Kingdom for academic progress, The Westgate School provides secondary education to around 930 full-time students.IT is central to the continuing success of the school and its pupils.
Hampton School widens access to classroom ICT with virtual desktop infrastructure.Hampton School is widening access to classroom ICT with a virtual desktop infrastructure strategy that relies on Dell Wyse’s innovative Xenith zero clients to deliver the best possible end user experience with no management headaches. Hampton School isan independent school for boys and has 1,200 pupils between the ages of 11–18. The Middlesex based school was founded in 1557 and is steeped in history. However, the school embraces new technologies and takes a very innovative approach to howpupils can use information technology to develop and learn throughout their time at Hampton.

"With a £20,000 reduction in hardware costs, the school has already seen a sizeable return on its investment. We’ve also seen significant savings thanks to our more efficient Dell-based IT infrastructure.
The Dell solution offered a simple, scalable infrastructure, allowing us to plan ahead, and still have the flexibility to react to a sudden change in circumstances.
We needed to make sure we could provide students and teachers with a high-quality, responsive IT setup and we realised that our manual backup processes weren’t going to be sufficient anymore. We wanted to implement a storage and backup infrastructure that would stabilise our environment and accommodate our plans for future growth. We knew that the most effective solution would be to make the move from physical servers to a virtualized infrastructure based on VMware vSphere 4."
Chris Green, IT Manager, The Westgate School
"The PCs were taking up too much time to manage and once one was fixed another one would break again. It was these ongoing issues that led us to begin researching the alternatives. With our goal of getting technology into the IT suites that fully supported our teachers with no drawbacks or issues for them or us, the total plug and play capability of the Xeniths really suits our requirements. The Xeniths are extremely easy and quick to set up and once you areready to use them then there are no more issues.A high point of the migration to zero clients for me was the response of our ICT teaching department. One of the ICT teachers said it is one of the best things that have happened at the school.”

Simplify the management of your computers
Hundreds of schools, colleges and universities have deployed Dell KACE appliances to save their IT staff time and to save them money through simplifying their systems management processes.
The Dell KACE Family of Systems Management Appliances is easy-to-use and affordable — and the single-appliance form means they are simple to install, have a short learning curve and are virtually maintenance-free.
The KACE Systems Management Appliances perform:
• Computer Imaging and Deployment • Asset Management • Software Distribution • Service Desk • Compliance • Security and Patching • Configuration Management • Power Management
Eliminate desk-side installation and maintenance
Software distribution helps save you time with remote administration, installation and distribution of applications, service packs, updates or hotfixes to desktops and servers. More flexible distribution takes the place of time-consuming manual tasks, even across large distributed networks. In addition, by using Dell KACE with Intel® Core™ i5 vPro™ processor enabled computers, you can remotely deploy, configure, diagnose, isolate and repair all your computers from a central site irrespective of their operating state.
Maintain network security and integrity
With the multitude of personal devices entering the classroom, it is critical to have visibility of everything that is connected to your network. Dell KACE features auto-discovery capabilities that allow IT administrators to create a real-time inventory of network-wide
hardware and software configurations. At the same time, Dell KACE Secure Browser separates the web browser from the operating system, thus containing all potential security threats.
Reduce your energy consumption
Dell KACE Appliances are designed to save you time and your company money by easily and efficiently providing comprehensive Green IT management capabilities, which ensure that PCs are always optimised for power savings, and resources are consumed only when necessary. They help eliminate travel to remote sites through their remote management capabilities, reducing overall energy consumption, and are also available in virtual form factors to further lower data center power and cooling requirements.
