CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES
The Deep Run competition cheerleading squad placed 2nd in the district to send
them to compete in the regional competition this upcoming Saturday
evening! Come out to the Siegel Center Saturday, November 3rd, at 6pm to
support their quest to compete at the state level! Admission is $8 and tickets
will be available Saturday starting at 12pm located at the VCU box office. We
can't wait to see you there!!
Honor Council will meet on Nov. 7th in
Room 241 during Extended Study. See Mrs. Whitfield if you
need a pass.
All theatre students interested in participating in
the Zombie Run should sign up with Alexa Johnson as soon as possible. You

All History Club Members, sign up for club picture day by signing the History Club list on Mr. Campbell’s door, Room 127. Make sure you have it signed by MONDAY
AFTERNOON
Mu Alpha Theta's next meeting will be Thursday, November 1st at 4:00
PM in the library. We will be welcoming our new members and
planning for a new math competition. A make-up meeting will be held on
Friday, November 2nd at 8:15 AM in the library. Also, Congratulations to
the newest Mu Alpha Theta members!
There will be an environmental science
meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 7 th. The meeting will take place in the gym and
will be during extended study. See Mr. Draper for a
pass in room 101.
Attention Short Pump SODA members: This is a reminder that you all
have your first visit today. Please see Mrs. Oliver before 5th block
today.
Attention Juniors! Both of the Junior Class t-shirts are finally in!Students' last
names beginning with the letters A-K please come to Ms. Fallis's room--Room
203--to pick up your shirt or shirts. Students' last names beginning with the letters J-Z please come to Mrs. Pierce's room--Room 217--to pick up your shirt or
shirts. Please come before school, during your Extended Study, or during 6th block
to pick up your shirts.
Attention Wrestlers: There will be no practice this afternoon,
returning wrestlers are to report to practice Monday, November 5th. First day of
practice for everyone else is Wednesday, November 7th.

Boys basketball tryouts will be held on Nov. 5 & 6. Freshmen
and JV tryouts will be held at the New Community School from 6-8pm. Varsity tryouts will be held in the Deep Run main gym on
Monday at 5:30am. for directions to New Community, see Coach

The Deep Run Investment Club will hold its first official meeting during ES Thursday (today) in room 238. Current and new members are encouraged to attend. We will be discussing plans for the year, leadership
positions, and college connections. See Mrs. Herrmann

Tickets for Hairspray will be on sale in the drama room
starting October 30. Tickets are $5 in advance and $8 at the door. You can also use your pride pass! You don't want to miss this amazing
show!
There will be a Deep Run Challenge
meeting today during extended study. Stop
by the library for a pass if you do not
have one yet.
Attention Spanish club members. It's t-shirt time! Get your spanish club t-shirts while you can. These
long sleeved beauties are only $12.00 and they won't last long. All checks must be made out to Deep Run High School and all
cash must be exact change. See Mrs. Lambert in room 226 for
details.
Seniors- Don't forget to check the Scholarship section of the
Deep Run web page for scholarship opportunities. The Scholarship section is
located in the School Counseling section. 9 new scholarship links have been
added last week!
The ACADEMIC AWARDS ASSEMBLY will be celebrated this year on Friday, November 9th, at
10am in the Gym. Any sophomore, junior or senior who earned straight Aís, perfect attendance or a perfect SOL score from last year will be honored. Parents of award recipients are welcome to attend. On Thursday, Oct. 4th, a list of award recipients was posted outside of the School Counseling Office. You have until Friday, October 26th to let the counseling office know if your name is missing. Congratulations to all award recipients and more details later about
practice.
WILDCATS, STRAP IN! The cheerleading squad will be selling
Deep Run rollercoaster long-sleeved tshirts. The cost is $20
dollars and we will be selling from 8:30 until 8:50 every morning this
week AND next week.You can also buy them during extended study in Ms. Slota's room, 220.
FCCLA & FEA Meeting Dates are during extended study in Mrs. Roger's FCS

SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES& VISITING COLLEGES
Attention Sophomores interested in a new aerospace opportunity! The VA Space
Coast Scholars program is a free of cost program which allows students a chance to engage in a dynamic online learning experience culminating with a summer
academy at NASA Wallops. At the summer academy students will design a
scientific exploration mission, design/build/fly the payload and obtain
and analyze the data. Applications available 11/2 at vscs.spacegrant.org.

UVA will be holding a College Prep Night, Thursday, November 8th, 6:30-8:30pm at Richmond Community High School. The Asst. Dean of Admissions from UVA will
be speaking with all interested high school students about admissions to UVA.
She will talk about the application process, what to include in your essay, and SAT and ACT scores. Questions or

Thinking about college? Whether you are planning to attend college or simply evaluating
your options, you can get answers to your questions about college admissions, the
financial aid process and scholarships at J.R. Tucker High Schoolís College Night. The event will be held on Monday, November 12th at 6pm
in Cafe 3. Pizza and drinks will be served at 6pm until we run out! The program will begin at
6:30pm and conclude with a scholarship drawing for $500 each to be awarded to 4 students who are present at the event that

The next meeting of the Scholarship/Financial Aid group will be held on Wednesday, November 7th during Extended Study. We will
have a guest speaker from the College Funding Group discuss
different forms of financial aid. Any seniors are welcome to attend. Come
by School Counseling for a pass.

scholarship opportunities from Washington Crossing
Foundation. Applications are due January 15th.
Virginia PTA is proud to sponsor a Citizenship Essay Project. This contest is open to all students in grade 9-12. The theme is "Proud to be an American." Application and information can be found on the School Counseling link of the Deep Run web page. All essays
are due to Mrs. Kaplan by January 16th.
The Comcast Leaders and Achievers Program is offering a $1,000
scholarship to students who have a strong commitment to community
service, academics and demonstrated leadership.
Applications are available on the Scholarship Section of the the

RADFORD UNIVERSITY will be hosting an ON-SITE APPLICATION REVIEW on Friday, November 30th at 11:30am in the Career
Center located in school counseling. In order to be considered you must: 1. Sign up in the
counseling office. 2.Submit an application for admission (along with the application fee) to Radford by Nov. 1st. 3. Have your SAT/ACT
score sent through collegeboard.com/actstudent.org to Radford. 4.Request your transcript early enough for
Radford to receive it by November 1st. To sign up and for more information come by the school
counseling office.
Seniors- There will no longer be a Scholarship Drawer in School Counseling. All Scholarship Applications received by School Counseling, will be scanned and available on the Deep Run Web Page
under a Scholarship Section on the School Counseling link. Please follow the
directions on the cover sheet of each application for completing and sending
the application.

Congratulations to the new Honor Council Members: 11th grade Brandon von
Kannewuff, Michael Salomon, Max Dash, Gabby Levet, and Jessie Hillis. 10th
Grade- Joseph Gates, Danniil Budanov, Sydney Lake, Paige Koetter, and Claire Harper. There will be a meeting for all
members on Ocotber 30th in Room 241 during Extended Study. See Mrs.
