TECTONIC//What is plate tectonics? Plate tectonics is a scientific theory that describes the movement of the Earth’s crust. The Earth’s crust, or lithosphere, is divided up into different plates. Where these plates meet, there are three different types of boundaries: convergent, divergent, and transform. The movement of these plates causes earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, and oceanic trench formation. I wanted to translate all of the drama, motion, and action of plate tectonics into an activewear collection.

TECTONIC//Tectonic activewear is for the confident, sexy woman looking for activewear to match her personality. Garments are unique, practical, and multifunctional. Allowing her to feel comfortable going from the gym to the store or anywhere else she desires. Moisture wicking fabrics and mesh to keep her cool. Ipod and phone pockets in convenient places. Dark and stormy color palette for a sexy, slimming, sophisticated look.

TECTONIC KNITWEAR//Knitwear collection designed around plate tectonics and the mobility that plates have. I wanted to translate the concept of moving plate boundaries into a garment that could be worn multiple ways.

TECTONIC KNITWEAR//Knit swatch development and final illustration. Eyelets, tension changes, ribs, and cables inlaid into stripes mimicking the pulling forces of tectonic plates and the twisted linear shapes of dried lava.

TECTONIC KNITWEAR//Plate movement is shown through the tank top. It can be worn six different ways, three of which are shown in the photos below. It was knitted on a standard machine eyelets and varying tensions were used to create texture inspired by dried lava. Both the leggings and headband were knitted on a chunky machine.Cascade 220 100% Highland Peruvian wool.

BREATH OF FRESH AIR// My objective for this project was to give activewear an update with lingerie inspired details. Literally “a breath of fresh air” for active wear using mesh paneling, cut outs, and vibrant colors of milliskin matte tricot, dri-tek performance tricot, and dri-tek performance powernet allowing the wearer to be cool while working out.

TULIP COAT// Tailored, wool garment inspired by details found in women’s coats of the 1940s, translated into a tulip shape.

TULIP COAT// Gathering at the waste to mimic a tulip shape. Neon and neutral color scheme. Wool coating and wool crepe fabric. Flat done in Adobe Illustrator.

THE GOLDEN MEAN//Collection designed around the mathematical relationship between the Golden Mean and the Fibonacci Sequence. Golden Mean=(a+b)/a=1.618033...where (a+b) and a are the two sides of a rectangle. Fibonacci Sequence=fn=fn-1+fn-2=0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34...

Designs influenced by the curves of the conch shell, a natural occurrence of the Fibonacci Spiral, and the angularity of the Golden Rectangle and Golden Triangle. Flats done in Adobe Illustrator.
