Death Valley

Death Valley is a desert valley

located in Eastern California. Situated within the Mojave

Desert, it is the lowest and driest

area in North America, and currently the hottest in the

world.

The climate of Death Valley is arid and because it is bounded by mountains on all sides, hot, dry air masses often get trapped in the valley. Therefore, extremely hot temperatures are not uncommon in the area. The hottest temperature ever recorded in Death Valley was 57.1°C at Furnace Creek on July 10, 1913.

Valley of Fire State Park

Valley of Fire is Nevada’s oldest and largest state park, dedicated in 1935. Ancient trees and early man are represented throughout

the park by areas of petrified wood and 3,000 year-old Indian petroglyphs. Popular

activities include camping, hiking, picnicking and photography are usually practiced in the

park. The park offers a full-scale visitor center with extensive interpretive displays.

The park is open all year.

Great Sand Dunes National Park And Preserve

Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve is a United States National Park located in the San Luis Valley, Colorado, United States. Originally created as Great Sand Dunes National Monument on March 17, 1932, Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve was established by an act of the United States Congress on September 13, 2004. The park contains the tallest sand dunes in North America, rising about 750 feet (230 m) from the floor of the San Luis Valley. The dunes were formed from sand and soil deposits of the Rio Grande and its tributaries, flowing through the San Luis Valley. Over the ages, westerly winds picked up sand particles from the river flood plain. As the wind lost power before crossing the Sangre de Cristo Range, the sand was deposited on the east edge of the valley. This process continues, and the dunes are slowly growing. The wind changes the shape of the dunes daily.

Mesa Verde National Park

Mesa Verde National Park is a U.S, Colorado. The park was created in 1906 by President Theodore Roosevelt to protect some of the best-preserved

cliff dwellings in the world. Mesa Verde is best known for cliff dwellings, which are structures

built within caves and under outcroppings in cliffs — including Cliff Palace, thought to be the largest cliff dwelling in North America. The Spanish term

Mesa Verde translates into English as "green table". It is considered to contain some of the

most notable and best preserved archaeological sites.

Sonoran Desert

The Sonoran Desert is a North American desert which covers large parts of the Southwestern United States in Arizona and California, and of Northwestern Mexico. It

is one of the largest and hottest deserts in North America. The desert contains a variety of unique and endemic plants and animals, such as the Saguaro and

Organ Pipe cactus.

Mojave Desert

The Mojave Desert (pronounced: mo-hah-vee) is a

desert which occupies a significant portion of

southeastern California and smaller parts of central

California, southern Nevada, southwestern Utah and

northwestern Arizona in the United States. The term

Mojave originates from the Spanish language while the spelling Mohave comes from

modern English.
