Big Toddle week: 19 - 25 June 2017
The Big Toddle is 20 this year! To celebrate, Barnardo’s has teamed up with
Teletubbies to provide some extra fun and help young children explore through
their Big Toddle.
A chance for your little ones to get involved in something big The Barnardo’s Big Toddle is the UK’s biggest, brightest event for under 5s! Many
thousands of toddlers take part in sponsored walks every year and have tons of fun
while helping transform the lives of vulnerable children.

We are looking to do this at Burbury Park on Wednesday 21st June
10.30am if you’d like to join in.

30 hours childcare for 3 & 4 year
olds
From September 2017 working families who meet the eligibility
criteria may be able to claim 30 hours term time only childcare
for their child the term after they turn 3.
The 30 hours can be split between 2 providers for example a
child attends morning nursery at school and then takes the
remaining 15 hours with a childminder. The hours can also be
split over the whole year which would be roughly 24 hours per
week. Full information can be found in this document
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/
attachment_data/file/610170/Operational_guidance.pdf
You need to be registered for Early Education Entitlement
(EEE) to be able to offer this—contact the NEF team on 0121
303 0267 or email nef@birmingham.gov.uk for more
information.
Full information for all the available childcare schemes can be
found on this website: https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk/
Tax Free Childcare
Tax-Free Childcare is a new government scheme to help
working parents with the cost of childcare.
Childminders can sign up for the new tax free childcare so that
working parents can pay your fees through their wages free of
any tax - more details can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/
government/news/tax-free-childcare-top-things-childcare-
providers-should-know
To receive Tax-Free Childcare payments, childcare providers
need to sign-up. All providers registered with a regulator (e.g.
Ofsted) will have received an invitation to apply, and reminder
letters. Providers who need assistance with the sign-up
process should contact the childcare service Customer
Interaction Centre on 0300 123 4097.
If you have chosen not to be on public lists with Ofsted then
you are considered a sensitive childcare provider and when
parents search for you in their 'digital tool' they need to enter
both your Ofsted number and your postcode. Not just one of
them.
You can check if you’re registered here: https://www.childcare-
provider-checker.tax.service.gov.uk

Specialist Network
Childminders
We would like to take this opportunity to
say a special thank you to all the
‘Specialist childminders’, that offer funded places across the
city for some of the most vulnerable families who are often
at crisis point.
Without your ongoing support and dedication to these
families, life would be very different and we cannot thank
you enough for working with our team and sharing this
journey with us.
Please have a look at the enclosed
invitation to our Network Event on
Wednesday 24th May especially for
Network Childminders.
Please remember: If you are asked by a Professional such as a Social
Worker or family support worker to take a placement, then please
refer them to us, as there is a process to ensure safeguarding of you,
the children and payment for the hours worked.
Funded by
Could you work 1 Saturday a month or during school holidays for school
aged children ? We also need childminders for odd days during the
week for children from birth to age 18 for short term care.
We can arrange for an informal discussion to talk about the criteria you
need to meet to offer placements for us.
Burbury Park Childminder
Referral Scheme
The referrals we receive are wide and varied and cover a whole range of reasons for needing short term childcare. The placements are as unique as you and your setting is.
Your designated co-ordinator will be there to support you and the family placed with you. They will help you offer quality places for vulnerable children and families and visit you regularly to support the placement for all involved.
Payment for referrals will come from Birmingham City Council.
Please give us a call on 0121 554 9678 to book a visit from your
area co-ordinator.
