In 2009, the Friends of the Cumberland Trail (F.C.T.), Inc. received $24,000 in federal funding for survey and research of historic resources associated with the Dayton Coal and Iron Company at Laurel Snow State Natural Area and adjoining properties.

The grant was matched with $16,000 in cash, in-kind labor, equipment, and materials.

Project activities for phase I included an archaeological pedestrian survey, GIS mapping, oral histories, research, and a written report.

Final report to completed in September 2012.Next phases will include NR Nomination and Preservation

and Management Plan.
