1900
• The School and Society was published as an elaboration on his educational theories.
- Like Montessori, Dewey believed students should be educated through their experiences, "experiential education"- Dewey believed that children had a say in their education, and the classroom should be set up to demonstrate a democratic society.- Dewey was a humanist, and strongly believed that students already had an internal idea of what is right and what is wrong, and that students had the ability to give themselves self-evaluations. (Rather than formal grades given by an instructor
Disadvantages of Dewey's theories is:-Students lose sight of who is in charge if they have too much of a say in what goes on in a classroom.- Students will fail to learn basic academic skills if they are far too in charge of their education- Some were very critical of his humanistic approaches to education, that students have yet to develop the capabilities to evaluate themselves, and know what's right from wrong.

Democracy and Education was published, Dewey states in order that all people may be allowed the opportunity to expand their capacities for growth they would have to live in a democratic society
