Cancellation ofpower shut down

JAMMU, May 10: ChiefEngineer Electric Maintenance &R.E Wing has informed that thepower shut down of 220 KVABus Bar at 220/132/33 KV GridStation Gladni approved on 11-5-2014 from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. hasbeen cancelled.

The power shut down hasnow been allowed on SundayMay 18, 2014.

Meanwhile, in order to carryout the work of temporary shift-ing the load of 66KV IndustryFeeder to 66 KV IID Feeder, thepower shut down of 66 KVIndustry Feeder and 66 IIDFeeder has been allowed on 11-05-2014 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m.and the supply to M/s Balaji willbe fed from 66 KV IID feeder ontemporary basis.

The areas will be affected dueto shut down are 66 KV Balaji,66/11 KV r/Stn. SICOP, 66 KVFeeder, 66/11 R/Stn. Knit FabChangran, Nagri, Airwan,Saidpur, Jarmal, Saktachack,Kathua City, Jakhbar, Barnoti,Palli, Nana, Janglote, Bakhata,Budhi etc and their adjoining

AKHNOOR, May 10: Amonthly meeting of BlockCongress Committee, Akhnoorwas held here today under thechairmanship of local MLA andMinister for PHE, Irrigation &Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma.

Speaking on the occasion, theMinister exhorted upon the work-ers to work for strengthening theparty at the grass root level andhighlighting the programmes andpolicies of the Congress Party. Hestressed the need for maintainingclose coordination between public,workers and administration so thatbenefits of various programmes ofthe Government reach out to theneedy at the grass root level. Hesaid it is endeavour of the CongressParty to uplift the weaker sections

of the society, maintaining equalityand help the needy so that everyonelives a dignified life.

He said Congress Party has richhistory of serving the country forlongest stint and has vast experi-ence about addressing the problemsof people, adding that during thepast over five decades the countryhas touched new heights under theCongress regimes. He asked theworkers to maintain and carry onthe high traditions set by the partystalwarts like Pt Jawahar LalNehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, IndiraGandhi and Rajiv Gandhi and workfor the welfare of the poor andneedy.

Expressing happiness over thelarger participation of voters in thecurrent Parliament Elections, theMinister said that this is good sign

for the healthy democracy. He saidthat awareness is must for the vot-ers to understand the importance ofelections.

Appealing the workers to main-tain peace and communal harmony,the Minister said that peace is mustfor development and progress ofthe country and everyone mustcontribute for maintaining it.

Regarding developmentprocess in Akhnoor, the Ministermaintained that election process isbe completed in next some daysand routine development processwill continue after that. He said theadministration is maintaining allessential services in routine andthere is no such problem inAkhnoor or anywhere. He saidpeople can highlight their problemsbefore the authorities which is oth-erwise responsive and accountableto attend their grievances, he added.

Woman succumbs to burn injuries; familyblocks NH, demands arrest of in-laws

JAMMU, May 10: Peopleand relatives of a woman todayblocked the Jammu-Pathankote National Highwaynear Shastri Nagar demandingarrest of the in-laws for settingthe victim ablaze few daysback, which led to her death at

Government Medical Collegeand Hospital (GMCH) today.However, dowry harassmentand abetting suicide case hasbeen registered at GandhiNagar police station againstthe in-laws of the victimincluding husband.

An irate mob along withthe dead body of the deceasedwoman today disrupted thevehicular movement foraround one hour on Jammu-Pathankote National Highway,

alleging in-laws for killing thewoman by setting her ablaze.

The relatives and the peo-ple demanding arrest of the in-laws of the lady blocked theJammu-Pathankote NationalHighway leading to long traf-fic snarls.

One of the relatives while

talking to Excelsior told thatAsha Devi, daughter of ShamLal, a resident of Karalia, dis-trict Samba was married to anauto driver Jasweer Singh aliasBittu, son of Jeet Raj of RoopNagar, Digiana some 10 yearsback. From the wed lock, thecouple had three children.

He said that the in-laws useto demand more dowry andseverally thrashed and beat thelady several times. Sometimesthe lady would go fainted dueto sever harassment, he added.

“Few days back, the couplehad a tiff over dowry issue andin a fit of rage, husband of thewoman set her ablaze andescaped from the spot alongwith other family members”, healleged.

“Asha was rushed toGovernment Medical Collegeand Hospital (GMCH) withserious burn injuries, where shefailed to respond to the treat-ment and succumbed to herburn injuries”, he added.

“We demand immediatearrest of the culprits (in-laws)behind the death of the womanand strict punishment to themso that no one dares to do suchthings”, he maintained.

On getting information, sen-ior police officials rushed to thespot and pacified the protestersassuring them immediate arrestof the culprits.

On the assurance, the pro-testers dispersed and the vehic-ular movement was restored.

As per police sources, fatherof the victim filed a case againstthe in-laws of her daughter atGandhi Nagar police station.

A case under FIR number99/14 under Section 498 and306 RPC has been registeredagainst Jasweer Singh, hisfather Jeet Raj and motherSatya Devi.

“All the accused are at largeand raids were being conductedto nab them”, they added.

When contacted SP Southtold Excelsior the victim in herstatement before the Magistratehad held no one responsible forthe incident. The victim in herstatement stated that the inci-dent had taken place accidental-ly, SP added.

When asked about the alle-gation leveled by the familymembers of the deceased, SPsaid that the “we are verifyingthe facts and if we find any foulplay, appropriate action will betaken against the accusedbehind the death of the burnvictim”.

The Governor lauded therole being played by theWomen's Welfare Trust in pro-moting the cause of female edu-cation in the Valley. He said thatthe ever since, nearly a centuryago, Annie Besant laid the foun-dation stone of this school, boththe Vasanta and KashyapaSchools have come a very longway in spreading education inSrinagar, particularly among the

economically weaker sections ofthe society.

The Governor said thattoday, fortunately, very highimportance is being devoted toeducating the girl child and the

Right to Education Act now pre-scribes fundamental right statusto the provision of education toone and all.

Appreciating the high quali-ty of the cultural programmepresented by the students andthe staff of both schools, theGovernor announced provisionof financial support of Rupees50,000 to the Women's WelfareTrust for further promoting cul-

tural activities in the schools.The Governor also presented

Gauri Koul scholarships, spon-sored by Dr. U.Koul in thememory of his late mother, tothree meritorious students who

had achieved thetop positions atthe SecondaryS c h o o lE x a m i n a t i o n s .The Governor, onthe occasion,announced thatfinancial supportwould be provid-ed to the Trust toaward three morescholarships to themeritorious stu-dents of both theschools.

The Governoralso assured Dr.Girija Dhar,Chairperson ofWomen's WelfareTrust that appro-priate financialsupport would beprovided to ensurethat both theschools functionsatisfactorily.

On the occa-sion, the First Lady unveiled anAnnual Debate Rolling Trophyinstituted by the Trust.

SRINAGAR, May 10:Director School EducationKashmir, Mir Tariq Ali today con-ducted surprise visit of variousschools of Srinagar and Pulwamadistricts and ordered suspension of14 for their unauthorized absencefrom the school.

These included five teachers ofBoys High School Natipora, oneZRP and eight ZRC's of ZonalEducation Office Shadimarg.

The Director also visited CEOoffice Pulwama, ZEO officePulwama, Boys Higher SecondarySchool Pulwama, HigherSecondary School RajporaPulwama and found that most ofthe schools were functioning satis-factorily.

The Director said that such sur-prise inspections would continueto bring in accountability and bet-terment in the functioning ofschool education system. He calledupon teachers to discharge theirduties with honesty and dedicationso that the academic environmentin the schools is brought up to thehigher levels of excellence.
