Rapidly turning ideas into reality
Final Assignment:
Take it home: Apply Design Thinking
Lee-Anne Walker
Rapidly turning ideas into reality
3 Key Takeaways:
1. Design Thinking is all about DOING – just start doing
and learn as you go
2. Understand and build empathy with the person(s)
you’re designing for – go out and talk to and listen to
the people who are going to be affected if your idea is
implemented
3. Everyone can do design thinking and it can be applied
in any context – it is just a different way to solve
problems

Reflection:
Design thinking is an approach to problem solving where the end user’s
needs are central to the solution. It is critical to understand and build
empathy with the people who you are designing a solution for in order for it
to be successful. The ways I can apply it in my everyday life are:
Home: how I interact with my family and solve problems – put myself in
their shoes and understand their needs. Be open about things we say,
do, think and feel and encourage everyone to use this approach. Try
new things and listen more rather than jumping into solution mode.
Work: incorporating design thinking into our company is part of my role,
so I have tangible actions to achieve including re-designing my ideation
workshops, helping leaders re-frame business problems, helping our
staff place customers in the centre of our decision making process.
