Colonialism● Mexico was settled by Spanish explorers● They brought over their traditions and their ideas about life.● A few things they brought over would be their food, habits, architecture,

diseases, and jobs.Cultures

● Aztec spoke Nahuan. Mexican speak spanish.● Aztec ate corn, beans, squash and other foods they could farm, hunt, or

gather. Now Mexico eats most of these things.● The Aztec’s believed in over 1,000 gods but they worshiped the sun god

most. Most of Mexico is roman catholic and only believe in one godEconomy

● The poor and rich gap in mexico is really big. There are a lot more poor people than rich people but the rich people have 41% of all the countries wealth

● Mexico has 114.8 million people● Mexico manufactures a lot of different things making it important to the economy

Life Today● Not many people immigration to mexico but mexicans will immigrate to the U.S.A.● Most people in Mexico work in the service industry● Almost all kids go to school for elementary school to middle school. Some places have

to pay for high school.

Central America and The CaribbeanNative people

● The people that were originally settled in Central America and the Caribbean where indian tribes.

● the spanish were the ones that discovered it when christopher columbus sailed over

influence and they mainly speak English in the Caribbean.● The main religion in Central America is Catholic and the Caribbean is

mostly Christian● They listen to Reggae which was started by Bob Marley and other

things that include their heritageEconomy

● The main source of income in Central America is traditional agriculture. The Caribbean is mostly trade and manufacturing

● The population in Central America is around 40 million. The caribbean has around 42 million

● Barbados has the highest population density in Central America with 669 people per square mile. Saint-Martin has the highest population in the Caribbean with about 1,750 people per square miles

● Tourism is a big business in this area especially the caribbean since it has such a good climate. it brings a lot of money into the country.

● The incas lived in what is now Peru ● When the Spanish came over they overthrew the incas and took over

their land● Other countries started to gain independence from spain from the late

18th century to the early 19th century.● They have a lot of socialist countries but they also still have a free

market Culture

● Their books have became very popular with the Latin American Boom. They have many different styles of writing like America.

● They like to listen to things like vallenato and cumbia music.● Arts and crafts are a way that the people are able to relate back to

their heritage.Economy

● The income gap between the rich and the poor is very big. The 10% of the rich own 40% of the wealth and the 20% poor hold less than 3% of the wealth

● They mostly make their money by exporting manufactured goods and natural resources.

● Chile's economy has a upper middle class rank. They lead the world in human development. has the biggest GDP in Latin America

Education● Most people in Spanish speaking South America can read and write.● Education in Chile is very different. You might have to pay to go to

high school (ages 14-17).

BrazilHistory

● There were many different tribes that lived there before since it was such a vast area.

● Portugal claimed brazil for its own in 1500. They made a settlement but it didn't really start anything. Once they split brazil in to 12 places.

● Brazil gained independence from Portugal on September 7, 1822Culture

● The people of Brazil have many of the same traditions of the Portuguese since they were the people who colonized it, yet they also have other cultures influencing them.

● They speak Portuguese because of the colonies ● They believe Roman Catholicism.

Economy● BRazil has many natural resources like oil, metals, chemicals, and

lumber.● They mainly go away from the cities that border the amazon and

towards Rio De Janeiro● The industry's they have are the lumber industry, power industry and

mining industryLife Today

● Part of the Brazilian culture is having carnival every year in the city of Rio De Janeiro

● They practice martial arts because that is part of their culture● Life in Rio De Janeiro is very busy since it is very populated. There

are many different kinds of people that live there and it is very rich in culture
