Create digital photographs for a media product

By Shaun Watkiss

Shoot plan• Location: Manchester City Centre • Types of shots: Long shots, medium shots• Equipment: DSLR camera, tripod, SD Card• Lighting: Natural lighting/Ceiling lights• Reason for choice: We decided to use a mixture of natural light while

outside because we can edit the contrasts and the lighter colours at a later point. For inside we’ll be using the lights on hand as we’ll be taking pictures indoors in well lit museums.

• Alternatives considered: Using our phones if the camera runs out of battery.

• Health and Safety considerations: If it rains we’ll be limited to only taking pictures under shelter and indoors only

• How files will be saved: On an SD Card

Aim of Shoot

Our aim is to produce a range of photographs to be used as part of a “Guide to the City” for new students moving to the area. The images will be used in a pull out colour guide and on their website.

Contextual Influences

Photographer 1• Name: Peter Lik • His style is very colourful

and highly contrasted/saturated.

• I will use his style in my work by finding colourful areas (e.g Afflecks or China Town) and editing the pictures with high contrast and saturation.

Contextual InfluencePhotographer 2• Name: Andrew Brooks• His style is much more

darker and more horror-style in some circumstances.

• I will use his style by taking pictures of darker areas (e.g inside the museums) and edit them to be darker and more contrasted to be more dramatic.

Contextual Photographer 3• Name: Henri Cartier-Bresson• His style is always in black and

white. It also has the on-going trend of there being people in the photos.

• I will use this style by taking pictures of the streets rather than buildings and make sure there are people in the shots. I will later edit them to be black and white
