REFUGEE RESPONSE OPERATIONSCOUNTRY OFFICE TURKEY
According to the Turkish Directorate General of Migration Management there are currently over 36 million Syrians under Temporary Protection in Turkey who fled as a result of the ongoing conflict Since March 2012 IOM Turkey has been part of a coordinated effort of UN Agencies NGOs and government partners providing humanitarian assistance including basic health and social services to help
migrants and refugees live a better and more stable life Through strong partnerships with municipalities across 18 provinces IOMrsquos initiatives are fostering greater social cohesion among migrants refugees and host communities Through these efforts IOM is actively developing the capacity of government partners to create sustainable solutions for managing migration in Turkey

bull The centre has served 3218 migrants and refugees through counselling social cohesion activities job placement education and information sessions Since the centre opened in September 2017 it has offered 15489 different services to a total of 6666 people
bull Profile of 23-year-old Syrian student Ali who registered for classes at the centre
bull Events held in municipal youth and women support centres in Şanlıurfa which include Turkish language courses and special events to bring the community together such as art activities and museum visits
bull 553 vulnerable individuals with complex and exceptional circumstances were assisted Medical care was the most common need making up 75 of the cases
bull IOMrsquos mobile psychosocial support (PSS) teams covered 13634 people through PSS sessions information and cohesion events
bull National Childrenrsquos Day events were held in İzmir Hatay and Şanlıurfa with over 11500 people to provide safe spaces for families and children to come together

bull 300 beneficiaries have been assisted by the livelihoods team including providing in-kind grants job placement and training workshops
bull Entrepreneurship trainings began in Gaziantep and Şanlıurfa with a total of 79 young people from host and migrant communities Three winners were selected for their projects in architecture interior design and innovative technology
bull A total of 4979 individuals have benefitted from shelter rehabilitation in Hatay Şanlıurfa Kilis and Kahramanmaraş and a further 12412 people from community stabilization projects since operations began in 2016
bull IOM Community Stabilization team provided 37 schools with sports equipment and rehabilitated playground areas benefitting 7500 students from both host and migrant communities
bull In coordination with IOM Deputy Mayor of Viranşehir and Şanlıurfa parliament member held the opening ceremony of Viranşehir Park rehabilitated by IOM on 15 April 2019

22 March 2019 attended by 214 Syrian and Turkish women and children which included dance and singing shows
bull Counselling and referral services awareness-raising sessions Turkish language courses computer courses and capacity-building trainings were provided to 2060 beneficiaries including mainly Syrians Iraqis and Turkish people
bull Since opening in November 2018 Adana Centre offered 3552 different services to 3139 beneficiaries
bull Up to 6347 students have used school transportation services 406 buses offered by IOM in Adana Sakarya Yalova Antalya and Batman to get to 64 schools
SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION
Hossam fled the war in Syria and came to Hatay Turkey with his family in 2014 He could not find a decent place to live In 2018 IOMrsquos community stabilization team supported the family in finding and rehabilitating a home to make living conditions better ldquoSince IOM refurbished our home our childrenrsquos health improved a lotrdquo Later in 2019 the IOM team needed some skilled workers for rehabilitating other peoplersquos homes and found out that Hossam had previous experience in construction ldquoIn spite of my injuries I didnrsquot want to stop workingrdquo he said as he created a small construction team under the supervision of IOM and people started to hear about them ldquoThis programme has given me hope I live in a better apartment and I have a job to support my familyrdquo

bull 11438 people were reached through 83 social cohesion activities at IBC Centres in Istanbul Gaziantep and Kilis The activities improve migrantsrsquo access to essential information and services and bring them closer to host communities
INTERNATIONAL BLUE CRESCENT RELIEF AND DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION (IBC) CENTRES
Child-friendly spaces at each centre help bring families together Since IOM support to IBC Centres began in September 2017 29259 people have been reached through 505 different activities
