1. When you create something you automatically own copyright (unless it is a work for hire)

2. Copyright means your can allow or prevent others from• Making copies• Distributing copies• Making derivatives• Displaying work publically

3. An exception to this is “Fair Use”

Fair Use

Section 107 of the U.S. copyright law describes the four factors to consider when determining Fair Use:

Purpose (commercial nature or nonprofit educational purposes)

The nature of work (published, creative) Amount used in relation to the whole Effect on potential market Transformative use
