Context Clues

What is a context?

• A context is the words that come just before and after a word, phrase or statement and helps you to understand its meaning.

• Context can be a sentence or paragraph or passage.

• It helps you make a general prediction about the meaning.

What is context clue?

• A context clue is a fact or an idea that suggests the meaning of an unknown word.

Exercise 4:

Vehement means angry / show strong feeling .

Gaits mean ways of walking .

Trek means walk.

2. Exercise is beneficial because a person gets the positive effects of good sleep, straight posture, good health, and reduced appetite.

Beneficial means giving good results/ useful .

3. Due to the two-week respite in Italy, Mary will not allow herself another break until Christmas.

Respite means break/ vacation .
