• Part of the celebration activities for the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR)

• Organised by Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) and the Hong Kong Jockey Club (HKJC)

• To promote cross-boundary movement of horses and the OIE concept of Equine Disease Free Zone

History

• Approval of EDFZ by OIE and EU in preparation of Asian Games in 2010

• Food and Health Bureau (FHB) of HK and Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) and the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) of China signed two collaboration agreements

• on veterinary co-operation

• equine inspection and quarantine

HK racehorses trained at the Horse Training Centre in Conghua, Guangzhou, go directly for races to HK

• 4 Co-operation Agreements 2017 • measures to facilitate the operation of the Conghua EDFZ,

• expert group on biosecurity matters

• arrangements on quarantine, surveillance and control of disease 3

Signing ceremony of 4 Co-operation Agreements between Mainland authorities and Hong Kong to facilitate the operation of the Conghua EDFZ.

Conghua Training Centre (CTC)

• Scheduled to open in Q3 2018

• World-class facility for the training of Hong Kong's thoroughbred racehorses

• Located approximately 200 kilometres from Hong Kong (four to five hours by specially-designed cross-border horse floats)

• Peak capacity more than 650 horses

• Four tracks - one turf track (2,000m in circumference), two all-weather dirt tracks (respectively 1,800m and 1,600m in circumference) and a turf uphill gallop (1,100m)
