COMMUNICATION:• Communication in general is the

process of sending and receiving messages that enables humans to share knowledge, attitudes, and skills.

• Although we usually identifycommunication with speech,communication is composed of twodimensions – verbal and nonverbal.

communication that involvesbody movement.

‘Gesturing’ can also be termedas body language which is anabsolutely non-verbal meanof communication.

People in the workplace canconvey a great deal of informationwithout even speaking; through non-verbal communication.

How does body talk?Like any spoken language,

body language has words,sentences and punctuation.

Each gesture is like a singleword and one word mayhave several differentmeanings.

Body language can be the determining factor in a job interview.

Body language may be the determining factor in a job interview.  If the applicant’s body language conveys that he is at ease with the subject matter and conveys confidence, he has a higher probability of getting the job, especially in this tough job market.

A gesture is a form of nonverbal communicationIn which visible bodily actions communicateparticular messages.

Gestures include hand motion, face, or otherparts of body.

The boy’s gesture indicates he’s happyor that he’s achieved a goal, of sorts.

The woman’s gesture indicates that she’s unhappy with something; perhaps her current circumstancesor first world problems.

INTERPRETATIONS OF NONVERBAL BEHAVIOR

How you interpret someone’s nonverbal behavior completelydepends on you and how you see the situation.

Every coin has two sides; similarly every interpretation has two or moresides. However, we’ll be looking at some of the most commonly found

nonverbal behaviors and their corresponding interpretations.
