Types of Communication

Oral Communication is the process of verbally transmitting information and ideas from one individual or group to another. Oral communication can be either Formal or Informal.

Examples of informal oral communication include: • Face-to-face conversations • Telephone conversations

Examples of formal oral communication:• Interviews • Conferences• Classroom lectures

Written Communication

Written communication is the type of communication used for complex information. It is also used when a record for future reference is needed.

Examples of written communication are:• business letters• memoranda • agendas • reports• questionnaires • notices.

Electronic Communication

Electronic Communication can be referred to as any communication that requires the use of technology.

Types of electronic channels are:• Teleconference• Videoconference• electronic mail (e-mail)• Voicemail• cellular phone

Visual Communication

Visual communication draws or attracts attention. It can be used to simplify and compare information as well as illustrate trends and ideas.

• Examples of visual communication are pictures: • charts and graphs• signals and signs• multi-media presentations • body language
