on a web page.
PODCASTO Also called “netcast.”O An audio or video program formatted to
be played on the iPod and made available for free or for purchase over the Internet.
O The name derives from the combination of broadcast and iPod.
VOIPO “Voice over Internet Protocol”O A category of hardware and software that enables
people to use the Internet as the transmission medium for telephone calls by sending voice data in packets using IP rather than by traditional circuit transmissions of the PSTN.
Online ChatO Any type of communication that
needs the internet to take place. O This type of communication
usually offers real time and direct transmission of text based messages.
WWWO “World Wide Web”O Consists of all the public Web sites
connected to the Internet worldwide, including the client devices (such as computers and cell phones) that access Web content.
STREAMINGO A technique for transferring data so that it
can be processed as a steady and continuous stream.
URLO “Uniform Resource Locator”O Also known as “web address”O A formatted text string used by Web browsers, email
clients and other software to identify a network resource on the Internet.
URL strings consist of three parts (substrings):

O These substrings are separated by special characters as follows:
protocol :// host / location
O “Web Log”O A discussion or informational site

WEBFEED
O A data format used for providing users with frequently updated content.
O Advantages:O Users do not disclose their email address when subscribing to a
feed and so are not increasing their exposure to threats associated with email: spam, viruses, phishing, and identity theft.
O Users do not have to send an unsubscribe request to stop receiving news. They simply remove the feed from their aggregator.
O The feed items are automatically sorted in that each feed URL has its own sets of entries (unlike an email box where messages must be sorted by user-defined rules and pattern matching).
