Intersecting facts• Mockernut Hickory nuts are consumed by many species of birds and
other animals.• Mockernut Hickories also provide caitives for animals to live in, such as
woodpeckers, Black Rat Snakes, Raccoons, Carolina Chickadees, and more.
• Fruits are 1 1/2 inches to two inches long and round or pear-shaped.• Leaves are shiny yellowish-green on top, and pale green below.• The bark of Mockernuts is gray with furrows.• If a Mockernut Hickory tree falls, or is cut down, new sprouts can grow
from the stump.• Many insect pests eat hickory leaves and bark.

Poem The leaves are green, the bark is rough, winter it’s going to be tough, the animals finding homes, hiding nuts inside our poor tree.

• We enjoyed the big whole inside the tree that something lived in. There were no changes due to the time we checked back into it. Measuring the tree was also fun, wrapping your arms around it like a big hug .
