What is Standardized Testing?

We use standardized testing to maximize fairness and provide meaningful comparisons.

What is the purpose of CEPA?

#1• Identify students’ levels• Place students in appropriate

programs• Place students in appropriate levels

#2• Track the progress of the nation

What can go wrong?

A student’s score could go missing.• Lost or damaged answer sheet• Computer failure

A student could receive the wrong score.• Poor exam conditions• Cheating• Wrong ID number• Wrong Version

How does this affect the student?

Missing Score• Repeat the test= Added stress, wasted

time

Wrong Score• Wrong Level• Too low= Wasted time• Too high= Frustration, failure, inability

to understand post-foundation classes, drop-out

How does this affect the rest of us?

Institutions• Retests require more work• Classes are mixed ability• Inaccurately placed students drop out

The Nation• Inaccurate data about the state of education• Wasted money on students who cannot

succeed• Citizens become frustrated with the higher

education process
