International Monthly Average FOB Coal Price Movement (in USD)
RBCT sets another Milestone

World's renowned Richards Bay Coal Terminal
(RBCT) with exclusive Coal loading facility in
South Africa has exported record quantity of Coal
in 2013. RBCT has shipped around 70.2 MnT of Coal in
2013, which is a highest ever quantity exported
from terminal. Terminal has risen with 2.8% growth
in Coal shipment from preceding year (2012).
During the year, port has maintained its Coal stock
level to an average of 3.8 MnT. During December 2013, port has shipped more
than 9% (6.8 MnT) of Coal as compared to
previous month's 6.2 MnT Coal shipments.

RBCT 2013 Coal Shipment in MnT
During the year, RBCT received 70.8 MnT of Coal
through 8,874 railway rakes and exported 70.2
MnT of Coal in 658 vessels (Capesize 440;
Panamax 98; Handysize 120) to different
destinations. RBCT has exported around 57.1%
(40.4 MnT) of Coal to Asia. Whereas, it has
exported around 38% (26.9 MnT) of Coal to
European countries.
State-owned Eskom Holdings SOC is the
country's sole power producer and the main local
consumer of Coal in South Africa, the world's
seventh largest Coal producer. The Company
utilizes fuel to meet nearly 90% of its generation
needs and uses Coal over 90 MnT pa.
During December, South Africa Coal prices were
less volatile and its premium grade 6,000 Kcal/kg
NAR has been traded between USD 82-86/MT.

Coal Ministry took Strict Actions over Coal Block Development Delays
Ministry took strict actions over Coal block development delays by the companies and issued Show Cause notices for
industry leaders to justify slow development of Coal block allocated to them. In last month, Ministry has de-allocated blocks
of Jindal Steel & Power Limited (JSPL) and Monnet Ispat & Energy Limited. And, also issued showcase notices and asked
explanation from Hindalco Industries, Mahanadi Coalelds, JSW Steel, Tata Steel and Power Finance Corp, Neyveli Lignite
Corp, Ispat Godavari, Ind-Agro Synergy, Nakoda Ispat, Vandana Global, Shree Bajrang Power & Ispat, Bhushan Power and
Steel, etc for failure of achieving targeted milestones on stipulated period.
Coal India increased Coal Prices of WCL by 10% from 18 Dec '13
Coal India Limited (CIL) has improved prices of Non-coking Coal produced by its subsidiary Western Coalelds by 10% for
Thermal Coal band G6-G17. G-6 category of Coal includes with GCV of 5,500-5,800 kcal/kg, while G-17 includes 2,200-
2,500 kcal/kg. Most Power plants consume Coal between G-11 to G-14 bands costing between INR 500-650/MT. Non
Coking Coal price was increased by CIL for all subsidiaries in May, 2013.On account of increase, power producers will have
to pay up to INR 30/MT more for fuel sources.

rose to 26.1 per cent than November 2013 and 14.3 per cent than December 2012.
With highest Coal shipment in last month of year 2013, port has shipped total around 148 MnT of Coal to the different part of
the world in calendar year 2013. NPC’s Coal export had grown from 131.3 MnT to 12.4% Y-o-Y in 2012.
