Diaphanosoma brachyurum is a common species of cladoceran, found in most southern waters in late spring, summer and early fall. Eye pigment filling end of head. Length up to 1 mm. No anal spines on postabdomen. Lacking a rostrum, and ocellus. Postabdomen claws with 3 basal spines. Anal spines present on postabdomen.
