THE TRIANGLE

THE 6 OBJECTIVES OF THE TRIANGLE. These objectives were the result of community consultation

1. Save the Palais

2. Put the car park underground

3. Create open space - no big towers

4. Ensure no shadow on the Foreshore

5. Preserve and enhance views

6. Provide live music venues

THESE OBEJECTIVES HAVE ALL BEEN MET!!

From the pier today (Arrow is Luna Park)

When complete – not much diff! (Towers on the left are existing buildings on the other side of the Upper Esplanade. They

are not part of development.)

OPEN SPACE

• 65% of the site will be Open Space!!• The next slide shows some of the green

open space. (Once again, the towers across the road are currently there and are not part of the Triangle). The other slides show some of the more urban open spaces such as the square in front of the Palais, a European style piazza and the Steps.

The Palais

• The Palais is the biggest building on the site – no ugly towers!!

• The building to the right is a benefit to the community – a gallery – Linden 2

• Scroll the next slide to the right (if you can) to see all of the open space to the north of the site. If you cannot scroll, let me tell you the north of the site has much open space.

The next slide is the Upper Esplanade

• Preserves views to the Palais and Luna Park and great views of the sea.

• There is a walkway with more extensive views than currently exist. (By scrolling to the right (you might not be able) you can see more of the yellow path on the next slide and the path provides heaps of views).

THE NEXT SLIDE – THE ST KILDA STEPS

• This will improve the connection between the Upper Esplanade and the beach and will be the next meeting place for Melbournians (Once again, the buildings at the back are on the other side of the road and not part of the proposal.)

I could go on and on.

• I believe the proposed Triangle is at worst benign and at best a wonderful result which achieves a complex array of outcomes (see 6 objectives in the second slide).

• In any event, with a signed contract and planning permit – nothing will stop it. It will provide 2,600 ONGOING jobs and so the State government will not let the contract be broken in this time of diminishing employment. Candidates promising to change or break the contract cannot deliver anything other than millions of dollars in damages to the city.
