CiscoCollegeRodeoTeamMemberwinsNationalCalfRopingChampionship

Cisco,Texas(June19,2018)–It’sbeen43yearssinceamemberoftheCiscoCollegeRodeo

TeamlastwonaNationalChampionship,butFreshmanTyHarrishasjustendedthatstreak.

HarrisbeatoutdozensoftheNation’stopcompetitorstobringhometheTitleofNational

ChampioninTieDownRopingfromtheCollegeNationalFinalsRodeoinCasper,Wyoming.

Harrishasbeenropingsincetheageoffour,andwaslookingforwardtothetough

competitionheknewhewouldfaceattheCNFR.

“It’saverytoughsport.Ittakesprettygoodathletesbecauseit’sjustaverytoughsport;

there’salotofvariables,”saidHarrisjustbeforeheleftfortheCNFRlastweek.

HistimeinRoundOnewas8.9seconds,followedby8.6secondsinRoundTwo,and8.0

secondsinRoundThree.HisquickworkinthefirstthreeroundssethimupwellfortheShort

Roundwherehefacedafeistycalf.

“IfeltreallygoodgoingintotheShortRound;Ihadagoodlead,butIdidn’tdrawas

goodofacalfasIkindofwantedto,butIjusthadtofinish.I’mgladIhadthatbiglead.Ifelt

goodgoingintoitwithalotofconfidence,”Harrissaid.

HistimeintheShortRoundwas13.0foratotaltimeonallat38.5seconds,afullsecond

aheadofthesecondplacefinisher.

“It’sbeenaprettybiggoalofmineandIfeellikeIdidagoodjob.Idrewgoodandmy

horsewasgoodanditjustallworkedout,”Harrissaid.

NotonlydidHarriswintheNationalCalfRopingChampionship,Harriswasalsonamed

2018RookieoftheYear.

“Itfeelsgreat.Thatwasmygoalgoingin,butitskindofhardtothinkaboutatthe

beginningoftheyear.Youknowit’salongyear,therearealotofstepsyouhavetogothrough

towinthattitleandI’mgladIdid.It’sprettysurreal,”saidHarris.

NowHarrishashissightssetontheNationalFinalsRodeo.Heplanstospendtherestof

thesummercompetinginevenmoreRodeosthroughtheProfessionalRodeoCowboys

Association.
