Scenario: Provision and deprovision a CICS SMSS instance as a consumer

Goal: Demonstrate how a consumer can use a template to provision anddeprovision a CICS SMSS instance.

Note: Some values shown in this document will differ from the values yousee on your z/OSMF system. For example, your user ID will be differentthan the user ID that was used to create the examples in this document.

The template was prepared by the service provider. You can explore that process in the CICS Transaction Server SMSS Region: Service Provider scenario.

This scenario demonstrates the consumer tasks with the same user interface that service providers use to prepare templates. A scenario for a more consumer-oriented marketplace is also included in this beta program.

Log into z/OSMF component of z/OS

1. Point the browser to the URL provided for use with this system.• If the browser asks to add an exception for the certificate, do so.

2. Click Log in

3. Log in with the consumer credentials that were provided to you.

Select the Software Services task

Expand the Cloud Provisioning category, then click Software Services.

Display templates

Click Templates.

The Overview page reflects the current software services templates and instances. You start by working with a template.

Select the template

The published software services template CICS_SMSS was prepared for you by the service provider.

Published means that it is ready to use.

1. In the table of software services templates, select the template CICS_SMSS.

2. Click Actions to display a menu. 3. Select Run... from the menu.

Run the template

Click OK to run the template. This tells z/OSMF to provision the software.

The Run window shows the properties, including input variables that you can supply before running the template.

Instance provisioned!

If the status is Being-Provisioned, click the Refresh button below the table until the status changes to Provisioned.

The Instances tab is opened to show the CICS SMSS instance that was provisioned for you. A message indicates the name of the instance, which varies.

Verify CICS SMSS instance

Click the instance name to display the properties.

To verify that the template successfully provisioned the CICS SMSS instance, view the properties of the instance.

Deprovision the instanceNow that you have confirmed that the template is ready for use, you can deprovision the instance to free up system resources.

The actions available with Perform were defined in the actions definition file that is associated with the template. These typically include deprovision.

Click OK to deprovision the instance.

The Perform page shows you information about the deprovision action.

Deprovisioned.

The current status of the software services instance is deprovision-in-Progress.

The status of the software services instance is now Deprovisioned.

Remove software instance

1. Select the instance.2. Click Actions to display a menu.3. Select Remove.

You should remove the instance, to avoid having it count towards a software services instance limit that has been set for you by the service provider.

Reusing the template

The published software services template CICS_SMSS remains available for you, so that you can provision a CICS Transaction Server instance in minutes, whenever you need it.
