Scripture Corner:
FOURTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
First Reading: Isaiah 66:10-14c Isaiah instructs the people of Jerusalem to rejoice, because God would restore her prosperity. The peo-ple will better understand God's power through their homeland's restoration.
Second Reading: Galatians 6:14-18 Paul describes the sign of the cross of Jesus as all that is significant. Following the old laws is unim-portant. Instead, being baptized in Christ and adher-ing to his ideals is what matters most.
Gospel: Luke 10:1-12, 17-20 Jesus sent forth seventy-two disciples to preach his good news, telling them "the harvest is rich, but the workers few." He also gave them detailed instruc-tions on how to act towards the people. Jesus then reminded them not to be happy because of their power over evil, but to rejoice in the salvation they would achieve.
Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.
THE 2020 MASS BOOK WILL OPEN ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 17th. Masses may be requested by mail or in person at the rectory. In person requests will be filled first; followed by mail requests—in the order they were received. The requested dona-tion is $20 per Mass. Forms are available at the rear of the Church and on the parish website.

The Office of Liturgy is inviting qualified liturgical musicians to apply for membership and service on the Archdiocesan Liturgical Music Commission. This Commission develops and promotes policies related to liturgical music in the Archdiocese of New York. It also serves as a point of contact for pastors and musicians seeking employment. The Commis-sion meets on a bi-monthly basis.
Membership information and an application form may be found at: https://nyliturgy.org/wp-content/uploads/Liturgical-Music-Commission-Application.pdf
This past week we celebrated Independence Day... "You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happi-ness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism." -Erma Bombeck
We come to the time when many families will have a well-deserved vacation. The children look forward to the summer months. It is healthy for them to have this time to run and play, to develop their abili-ties, and to enjoy the beauty of God’s Creation in outdoor fun. Parents and other adults are looking forward to their vacation, perhaps visiting relatives, traveling on some long-awaited trip, or just relaxing.
But, please do not take a vacation from God, from prayer, from Sunday Mass. It is so easy to find excuses. “We were traveling.” “We were too tired.” “We just forgot.” Do not let that happen to you and your family. Do not take a vacation from prayer-given time to God every day or night. Do not take a vacation from Mass—find out the time of Masses where you are visiting.
Do not hesitate to say to friends or relatives with whom you might be staying: “Can you tell me where the nearest Catholic Church is?” People will be impressed by your devotion to Sunday Mass and that in itself may encourage them to come too. Above all, do not take a vacation from God. Think of Him often during the day. Remember the Creation you enjoy is His creation, not ours. Acknowledge Him throughout your vacation. Always make time for the Lord for He always makes time for you. Enjoy your vacation. See you in church.
Thank you for all that you do,
Fr. Duff

RESPECT LIFE SOCIETY - GOOD NEWS
The New York State Legislature wrapped up the 2019 session on June 21. One item of good news for pro-life supporters is that advocates for the legal-ization of physician-assisted suicide failed to get a vote on the bill in any committee in either house. The NY State Catholic Conference and various pro-life organizations including St. Mary’s Respect Life Society were successful in highlighting the many dangerous consequences of such a policy. Thank you to all who wrote letters, sent post cards and traveled to Albany to lobby against the proposed bill. We must not get complacent, however, as the bill will surely be reintroduced. Please take post cards from the back of church to mail to legislators or visit www.nyscatholic.org, click on “take action!”, and follow the prompts to contact legislators and sign online petitions on a variety of pro-life issues.
