Christmas traditions

in Germany

The Advent calendar

• Many children have an Advent calendar.• It has 24 „little doors“: behind them are every day a chocolate or something other.• There are some mothers who make the

calendar themselves.

• There you can drink hot wine or punch and eat other yummy things.

•Famous markets are in Nürnberg, Aachen and close to us Frankfurt and Rüdesheim

• In germany many people go in the advent time on Christmas market.

The Advent wreath

• An Advent wreath is a wreath made of fir branches.

• On it there are four candles and other decorative objects like stars, bells and ribbons.

• Every Sunday in the Advent time you light one more candle.

And when the fourth candle burns, the Christmas Day isn‘t far away.

Christmas Cookies

In the Advent time many people bake various sorts of Christmas cookies.

The children love to excel the cookies with diverse bake forms: There are angels, stars, bells, christmas boots, Santa Clause and so on…

AND: Many big children love to eat them!
