CHILE AND ITS ZONES

Chile is divided into three main zones

• Northern Zone : regionsXV, I, II, III, and IV.

• Central Zone: regionsV, MetropolitanRegion, VI, VII, VIII.

• Southern Zone: regionsIX, XIV, X, XI, and XII.

Northern Zone• It is hot most of the year.

• It rains very little.

• People wear light clothes.

• The roofs of houses are flat.

Northern Zone• It has a desert climate.

• There are very few plants and animals.

• Plants: cacti, tamarugos and llaretas.

• Animals: vizcachas, chinchillas, llamas, vicuñas.

Northern Zone

Northern Zone• Its main productive activities are mining and

fishing, so, this is a zone of miners and fishermen.

Central Zone

• Here the four seasons are very different: warm and dry in summer and cold and rainy in winter.

• There are many trees and many animals, especiallybirds.

The main productive activity in the central zone are farming, trade and fishing

The Southern Zone

• It has a cold and wet climate.

• There is heavy rainfall the whole year.

• Temperatures are very low

• People wear thick clothes and keep theirhomes warm.

• The monkey-puzzle tree(araucaria)
