Cheektowaga is a town in Erie County,

New York

The Town of Cheektowaga is in the north-central part of the county. It is the second

largest suburb of Buffalo, next to Amherst.

Major highways in the town of Cheektowaga include:

Interstate 90 (New York State Thruway), runs North-South through the town, traveling from the Amherst town line in the north, south to the West Seneca town line in the southwest corner of town.

Interstate 190 (Niagara Section), travels in the town from I-90 to Buffalo City Line and beyond into Downtown Buffalo and north to Niagara Falls.

New York State Route 33 (Kensington Expwy.,Genesee St.), East-West Route that runs through the town from the Buffalo city line as the Kensington Expressway to the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport, which lies within the town. Genesee Street then takes over NY 33 east out of the town into Lancaster.

Cheektowaga is also home to the Buffalo Niagara International Airport

Transportation

One notable thing about Cheektowaga is that if you need to go anywhere, you're going to have to drive. This is because Cheektowaga is primarily built for cars, and if you drive around you will notice that there are lots of shopping centers, parking lots, strip malls, and wide streets. But don’t worry, everything is within a 20 minute radius, including downtown Buffalo.

Commuting to work is done by car: 96.73% of people use private automobiles to get to and from work.

Also available is the NFTA Metro Bus System- a public form of transportation.

It is common to see 1 or 2 people riding bikes during the day, or groups of kids walking home after school. In the evenings, there are scattered joggers or families walking dogs.

Airport Plaza has a cheap movie theatre, major grocery store, clothing stores, fast

food, etc. all in one convenient place off of a major road.

Within 20 minutes, and within the Cheektowaga town limits, there are limitless places to shop. Fast food of every kind as well as restaurants ranging from Chinese and Tai food to Asian or Mexican, as well as coffee shops or convenient stores can be found almost everywhere.

Many homes in Cheektowaga were built in the 1950’s. While there is a variety of housing styles, the majority are 1 or 2 family, cape style homes.

Most lawns are kept fairly nice, and it is rare to see an abandoned home in the area.

Sister’s Hospital – St. Joseph Campus

Although the town is surrounded by over a dozen hospitals, the only one actually located in Cheektowaga is Sister’s Hospital – St. Joseph Campus. This hospital specializes in

emergency care, sleep disorders, care for non-healing wounds, bariatric surgery, and stroke care.
