network

What is the Chapter Advisory Council?

• A representative structure for Surfrider Foundation’s chapter network

• Provides chapter leaders with the opportunity to play a consultative role in issues related to the chapter network

• Works in partnership with management, staff and Board of Directors

Purpose• To demonstrate a sincere respect for our chapter activists’ views;

• To create a culture of cooperation, not competition, between chapter network and SRF Global Headquarters;

• To provide a peer conduit for our chapter network to assist in vetting process, procedures, and information;

• To provide an opportunity for volunteer leaders to assist the organization in solving problems;

• To provide an opportunity for chapter leaders to assist SRF in becoming the most effective organization it can be.

Goals

• Act as a conduit between Chapters, Staff, and the Board of Directors

• Provide on-the-ground feedback

• Identify what is working on the Chapter Level and what needs to be improved

Structure• 9 members elected from around the country that serve as

proxies for the chapter network

• Serve 2 year terms

• Required to meet 4 times per year– Have been meeting monthly

• Council elected Chairperson

• Ed as Staff Liaison

What about those Regional Staff?

They still serve as the primary conduit to the chapters for campaign support and assist the CAC in

disseminating information

What We Do• Provides representative chapter network input

• Provide HQ with peer review of network processes, policies and guidelines

• Consult on Membership issues (retention, training, support, engagement, etc.)

• Provide input on strategic issues raised persons across the Foundation
