Web Sites

Web Site

• Try a free on-line editor and host like www.weebly.com.

• At minimum the site needs: – Landing page (or Home page)

– About You with narrative bio.

– Photo Gallery

– Contact page (Optional)

– Other Options: Testimonials, Services, etc…

Add a resume

Link to a pdf file uploaded to your site or a file sharing site.

Blog-folio: free & effective

Keep the design simple. It’s the photos and content that matter.

Blog-folio

• Collect photos and information about your work & experiences.

• Keep it professional.

• Free blogs like Google Blogspot allow additional pages, or they can be part of your personal branding like web site, etc.

• Blogs are a great networking tool.

• Active blogs rank high on Google search.

Put your contact info in a logical place!

Talk about your ideas

Tags allow a quick way for people to find work they are interested in. Easy way to connect on Facebook.

Show your latest work

Talk about people & events

This blog post led to holiday work at Taste, plus lots of Billy’s friends saw my work.

Show that you are aware of trends & a participant in the community.

People want to know that they are hiring someone that is plugged in and knowledgeable about contemporary business and design trends.

Post about large events

When people search for the event, they will see your story too…

Include sketches & drawings

The blog gives you a chance to show work that needs context.

Mention your posts on Facebook

Let your connections know when you post something new.

Build your Facebook network

Keep track of the industry and people you want to work for.

Get recommended on LinkedIn

LinkedIn is often the highest ranked link when someone looks for you. Follow companies you are interested in and participate in group discussions.

SlideShare & YouTube These SlideShows, YouTube videos, Flickr streams, etc… can be embedded on your blog or web site.
