ATTENDANCE
Attendanceisvitaltoastudent’ssuccessintheseprograms.Whenyoumissadayofinstruction,itisdifficulttomakeuptheworkduetothehands-onnatureoftheclasses.
1.Eachstudentshallbeauthorizedsix(6)excusedabsenceseachsemesterifthereasoncomplieswiththefollowing:A.Personalillness;orB.Seriousillnessinthefamily;orC.Deathinthefamily;orD.Specialpermissionoftheprincipalobtainedinadvance
2. Aparent/guardianmustcalltheattendanceoffice,924-5332,before11:00a.m.eachdayofthestudent'sabsenceforverificationifitistobecountedasoneofthesix(6)excusedabsences.E-mailnotificationisnotacceptable.
3.UnlessspecificallyNOTEDbyaphysician,doctorappointmentswillbeexcusedonlyforamaximumofone-halfday(2blocks).4.Allstudents,especiallyseniors,arepersonallyresponsibleforaccountingfortheir
absences.Theattendanceofficewillnotbeaccountabletothestudentforprovidingthisinformation.
Parents:Pleasenotethat“SeniorSkipDay”isnotanexcusedabsence.CHS
doesnotrecognizethisday.
EXCEPTIONS
Absencesinexcessofsix(6)dayspersemestermaybeexcuseduponpresentationofamedicalstatementsignedbyalicensedphysicianoratthediscretionoftheprincipalafteranat-schoolconferencewiththeparent/guardian;however,thiswillnotautomaticallyresultintheexcusedabsence.Allmedicalexcusedabsencesmustbeturnedintotheofficewithintwo(2)daysoftheabsence.
EXTENDEDABSENCESWhenastudentisabsentformorethanfive(5)consecutivedays,thefollowingguidelinesmustbefollowed:1. Ifthestudentintendstoreceiveanexcusedabsence,he/she,uponreturningto
school,mustpresentastatementfromalicensedphysiciancertifyingspecificdatesmissedduetothemedicalcondition.

2. Thestudentanticipatinganextendedabsenceduetoamedicalreasonmustnotifyhis/hercounselorpriortotheabsenceinorderthatorderlyacademicprogressmaybemadeduringtheabsence.
3. Failuretocomplywitheitheroftheaboveguidelinesmayresultinthestudentnotbeingpermittedtocompleteforcredittheacademicworkmissedduringtheabsence.
OFFICIALABSENCESAbsencesthatareincurredduetoschool-relatedfunctionsmaybeexcusedasOFFICIALifpriorpermissionhasbeenobtainedfromtheprincipal.Ifanofficialabsencehasbeengranted,thestudentmust:1. Obtainassignmentsbeforescheduledabsenceand2. Submitcompletedassignmentstoappropriateteachersasdirectedorupondateof
return.
MAKE-UPWORKEXCUSEDABSENCESAstudentwhoneedstomakeupworkmissedbecauseofanexcusedabsencemustcontacteachofhis/herteachersimmediatelyuponreturningtoschoolandsetatimewhenthemissedworkcanbecompleted.Althoughanabsenceisexcused,studentswillreceivenocreditforworkmissedunlessitismadeup.Thesubjectteacherisresponsibleforsettingareasonabledeadlineandaidingthestudentinbringinghis/herworkuptodate.Allworkmustbemadeupwithinanumberofdaysequaltothenumberdaysthestudentwasabsentuptoamaximumoffive(5)schooldays;otherwise,anautomaticzero(0)willbeassignedfortheworkmissed.
MAKE-UPWORKUNEXCUSEDABSENCESThosestudentswhoreturntoschoolwithabsencesdesignatedasunexcusedwilltakeonlyassignedtestsmissedduringtheclassperiodinadesignatedareaonthefirstdayhe/shereturnstoschool.Anystudentwhorefusesordeclinestotakehis/hertestatthistimewillautomaticallyreceiveazero(0).Noexceptions.
CHECK-OUTS
PROCEDURE:1. Anystudentneedingtocheckoutofschoolforanyreasonmust:
A. Haveonfileacheck-outcardcontainingthesignaturesoftheparentandthenamesandtelephonenumbersofotheradultswhohavebeenauthorizedbytheparent/guardiantocheckthestudentoutofschool.AnEMPLOYEEof

ClintonHighSchool/CareerComplexmaybelistedonlyonhis/herchild/dependent'scheck-outcard.
B. Obtainpermissionfromtheclassroomteachertoreporttotheoffice.Studentswishingtocheckoutbetweenclassesmustgetpermissionfromtheirnextperiodteacher.
C. Reportdirectlytotheattendanceoffice.2.Inthefrontofficeanotificationcallwillbemadeandaparent/guardianoradult
designeeshallreporttosignthestudentoutonthecheck-outcard.Proofofidentificationmayberequiredtocheckastudentout.
3. Theparentoradultdesigneeshallchecktheappropriatereasononthecheck-outcard.Ifnoreasonischeckedonthecard,thecheck-outwillbedeemedunexcused.Check-outcardswillnotbechangedoncethestudenthasleftcampus.
4. Anadministratorwillhandleallemergencysituations.5. NOTEACHERhastheauthoritytopermitastudenttoleavecampus.6. Studentswillnotbedismissedfromschoolwhenthecommunityisunderatornado
warning.Schoolpersonnelareresponsibleforthesafetyofthestudentswhoareinthehallwayduringatornadowarning;therefore,personnelarenotavailabletocheckoutstudentsintheoffice.
EXCEPTIONS:
1. Studentswhoparticipateinanyoff-campusprogram,e.g.,CareerPathwaysstudents,willbeallowedtoleavecampusatthebeginningofninthperiodwithappropriatedocumentation.
2. Seniorswhohavepermissiontoleaveattheconclusionoftheiracademicprogram.
TARDINESSTARDINESSTOSCHOOL:
1. Allstudentswhoreporttotheschoolafterthetardybellringsforthebeginningof
firstblockmustreporttotheattendanceofficebeforegoingtoclass.2. WHENASTUDENTISGOINGTOBETARDYFORFIRSTBLOCKATTHECAREER
COMPLEX,aparent/guardianmustcalltheoffice(601-924-0247)BEFOREthestudentarrivestoschool.Anacceptableexcusemustbepresentedtodetermineifthetardyistobeexcused.Generally,thesameguidelinesareusedfortardiesasareappliedforabsences.NOTE:Forthosestudentseligibletorideabus,"cartrouble"isnotanexcusedtardy.
3. Ifnophonecallisreceivedorthephonecallisreceivedafterthestudentarrivestoschool,thetardywillbedeemed“unexcused”andadetentionissued.
Tardinessthatexceedssix(6)timeswillbedeemed“unexcused”andadetentionissued.

Complex.3. StudentswhoridethebustoschoolandhaveafirstblockCTEclasswillneedtoride
thejuniorhighroutethatservestheirstreet.ThisinformationcanbeobtainedfromtheClintonSchoolsTransportationDepartment(601-924-7219).

NostudentistoridewithanyonetoorfromtheCareerComplex.However,passengersmayridewithadriverifthedriverisarrivingtoschoolfor8:15classorleavingfordismissalat3:50.Violationswillresultinthe“driver”loosingdrivingprivilegesandthe“rider”beingissuedatruancyviolation.Thestudentwillbesubjecttodisciplineproceduresasstatedinthetruancypolicy.
2. Studentsarerequiredtobeontime.Cartroubleortrafficrelatedproblemsarenotcauseforexcusedtardiness.

CODEOFCONDUCT
CONDUCTANDDISCIPLINEALLCHSCareercomplexstudentswillbeexpectedtofollowtheCodeofConductasoutlinedintheClintonHighSchoolStudentHandbook.ThisinformationcanbeobtainedbygoingtotheClintonPublicSchoolswebsite(www.clintonpublicschools.com)andclickingontheClintonHighSchoollink.
DETENTION
1. Studentsinvolvedinproblemsofaminornaturewillbeassigneddetention.Thepurposeofdetentionistwofold:(1)toserveasaminorpunishmentand(2)towarnthestudentthatanelementofhis/herbehaviorisunacceptableandmustbechangedormodified.Detentionwillbeservedeitheronthedayassignedorthenextschoolday.Uponreceivingadetention,thedetentionslipwillbesenthometobesignedbyaparentandreturnedtotheteacher.

Ifastudentisassignedadetentionandfailstoinitialthedetention,anadditionaldayofdetentionwillbeassignedbyanadministrator.Studentswhoareassigneddetentionmustreporttothedetentionroompriortothe3:55P.M.bell.Studentsmaybegivenone(1)daytomakearrangementsfortransportation,ifnecessary.Thetimeastudentspendsindetentionmustbespentstudying.Allstudentsmustreporttodetentionwithbooksand/orstudymaterials.
2. Astudentwhofailstoreporttodetentionwhenassignedwillbeassignedone(1)penaltydayinadditiontobeingrequiredtomakeupthedaymissed.Shouldthestudentfailtoreporttodetentionagain,thestudentwillbeassignedtoin-schooldetentionuntilbothafterschooldetentionsareserved.Ifastudentistardytodetention,heorshewillnotbeadmittedandwillbetreatedasabsent.

OVERNIGHTSUSPENSION
Astudentissuspendedfromschoolattendanceuntilaconferenceisheldwithanadministratorandtheparent/guardian.Ifthestudentreturnstoschoolwithoutaparent,theywillbeplacedinIn-SchoolSuspensionuntiltheirparentcomesfortherequestedconference.Ifaparentrefusestocometotheschoolfortherequestedconference,areporttoDHSwillbemadebytheschool.
SUSPENSION
Suspensionfromschoolattendanceisusedincasesofmisconductorthecontinuedfailuretoabidetoschoolregulations.Allsuspensionswillhavealimitsetatthetimethesuspensionisimposed;itwillbeineffectuntilaspecifieddateoruntilcertainconditionshavebeenmet.Duringthistimeofsuspensionfromschoolthestudentisineligibletoparticipateinorvisitanyschoolfacilityorfunction.
Studentsmaybesuspendedbytheprincipal,assistantprincipalorcareercomplexdirector.Whenastudenthasbeensuspendedformorethanthreetimes,thestudentmaybeplacedinthealternativeschooloritmayberecommendedtothesuperintendentthatthestudentbesuspendedfortheremainderofthesemester.Suspensionsnormallystartthedayafteranoffensehasbeencommittedunlessdeterminedbytheprincipalthatthestudentsshouldbesuspendedimmediately.Inallcasesofsuspension,aparentor

guardian,student,andadministratorconferencewillbeheldattheschoolpriortothestudent'sreturntoclasses.Alldaysmissedbecauseofsuspensionsareunexcused,andassignedtestsmissedmustbemadeupthedaythestudentreturnstoclass.

CHEATING
Utilizing,receiving,orgivingunauthorizedhelponschoolrelatedassignmentsisnotpermittedandwillnotbecondonedatClintonHighSchool.Studentswhoaresuspectedof"cheating"byateacherwillbeinformedoftheallegationsinaprivateandprofessionalmanner.Ifdetermined,beyondareasonabledoubt,thatthestudentisguiltyofsuchallegations,azerowillbeissuedforthatassignment.Iftheassignmentisamajorgrade,termpaper,nine-weektests,etc.,awrittendisciplinereportwithevidenceofallegationswillbesubmittedtotheprincipal'sofficefornotificationandaconferencewiththestudent'sparentsorguardianswillbeheld.
TOBACCOUSE/POSSESSIONTobaccouseand/orpossessionofisnotpermittedanywhereoncampusincludingparkingareas.Thepenaltyforuseand/orpossessionofisathree-dayoutofschoolsuspension.Therewillbenoexceptionsonthisrule.
STUDENT-TEACHERRELATIONS1. Studentswillnotbeabusedormistreatedbyteachers.Atthesametime,wedonot

HAZINGANDHARASSMENTThehazingorharassmentofanystudent,sexualorotherwise,willnotbetolerated.Astudentorgroupofstudentswhoissuspectedofsuchbehaviorshouldbeimmediatelyreportedtothebuildingadministratorforquestioningandpossibledisciplinaryaction.Ifdeemednecessaryanappropriatedisciplinaryactionwillbedeterminedbythebuildingadministratorwhichmayresultindetentionorsuspension.Incertaincasesaschoolviolencereportmaybecompletedandthereportfiledwiththelocalpolicedepartment.
RACIALHARASSMENT
Racialharassmentconsistofphysical,written,symbolic,orverbalconductorcommunicationrelatingtoanindividual’sracewhentheconduct;hasthepurposeoreffectofcreatinganintimidating,hostileoroffensiveworkingoracademicenvironment,orhasthepurposeoreffectofsubstantiallyorunreasonableinterferingwithanindividual’sworkoracademicperformance.Appropriatedisciplinaryactionsmayincludebutarenotlimitedtocounseling,awarenesstraining,parent-teacherconference,warning,suspension,exclusion,expulsion,transfer,remediation,termination,ordischarge.Schooldistrictactiontakenforviolationofthispolicyshallbeconsistentwiththerequirementsofdueprocess.
STUDENTBULLYING
StudentsandemployeesintheClintonPublicSchoolDistrictareprotectedfrombullyingandharassingbehavior,whetheronoroffcampus,byotherstudentsoremployees.Bullyingorharassingbehaviorisanypatternofgesturesorwritten,electronicorverbalcommunications,oranyphysicalactoranythreateningcommunication,oranyactreasonableperceivedasbeingmotivatedbyanyactualorperceiveddifferentiatingcharacteristicthat(a)placesastudentorschoolemployeeinactualandreasonablefearofharmtohisorherpersonordamagetohisorherproperty,or(b)createsoriscertaintocreateahostileenvironmentbysubstantiallyinterferingwithorimpairingastudent’seducationperformance,opportunitiesorbenefits.Anystudent,schoolemployeeorvolunteerwhofeelshe/shehasbeenavictimofbullingorharassingbehavior,orhaswitnessedorwhoreliableinformationthatastudent,schoolemployeeorvolunteerhasbeensubjecttobullyingorharassingbehaviorshallreportsuchconducttoateacher,principal,counselororotherschoolofficial.Thereportshallbemadepromptlybutnolaterthatfivecalendar(5)daysaftertheallegedactoractsoccurred.Thecomplaintwillbeinvestigatedpromptly.Parentswillbenotifiedofthenatureofanycomplaintinvolvingtheirstudent.ThedistrictofficialwillarrangemeetingsasmaybenecessarywithallconcernedpartiesatscheduledtimesasprescribedbySchoolBoardPolicyJDDA.

Thedisciplinepoliciesandproceduresmustrecognizethefundamentalrightofeverystudenttotake“reasonableactions”asmaybenecessarytodefendhimselforherselffromanattackbyanotherstudentwhohasevidencedmenacingorthreateningbehaviorthroughbullyingorharassing.Furthermore,theClintonPublicSchoolDistrictdefines“reasonableaction”aspromptlyreportingthebehaviortoateacher,principal,counselor,orotherschoolemployeewhensubjectedtobullyingorharassingbehavior.
FIGHTING
TheClintonPublicSchoolDistricthasthesafetyofstudentsasapriority;therefore,nostudentwillbeallowedtofightortohitforanyreasononthewaytoschoolandfromschool,whileatschool,oratanyschoolevents.Astudentwhofightsorhitswillbeimmediatelysuspendedfromschool.Itistheresponsibilityoftheschoolstafftodisciplineastudentwhofightsorhits.Fightingisdefinedasaverbalorphysicalexchangecausingadisruptionoftheeducationalprocess.Thisincludesstudentswhoattemptorengageinphysicalcontact,studentswhoinvadeanother’spersonalspaceinathreateningmanner,orstudentswhointentionallybehaveinsuchawaythatcouldreasonablycausephysicalinjurytoanyperson.Anystudentinvolvedinfightingorpromotingfightingshallbesubjecttodisciplinaryaction.Thepenaltyforparticipatinginafightwillbeasfollows:

DESTRUCTION/DEFACEMENTOFSCHOOLPROPERTYAnystudentingradeseven(7)orabovewhovandalizes,destroys,ordefacesschoolpropertywithpaintorotherwise,orwhofloodsaschoolbuildingshallbesuspendedfortheremainderofthecurrentsemesterandshallbereadmittedatthebeginningofthenextsemesteronlyafterthestudentand/orhis/herparent/guardianprovidesanassuranceinwritingthatsuchbehaviorwillnotberepeated.Inaddition,theparentorguardianshallberequestedtopaythecostofrestoringthedamagedordefacedproperty.TheSuperintendentofSchoolsisauthorizedtoofferarewardnottoexceed$100.00toanypersonwhoprovidesinformation,whichleadstotheidentityandconvictionofanypersonwhohasdamagedordefacedschoolproperty.

NOOPENCONTAINERPOLICY
Inanefforttoprovideasafeandorderlyenvironmentforourstudents,parentsandfaculty/staff,campusescontaininggrades6-12areenactingaNoOpenContainerPolicyforeachcampusandallschoolsponsoredevents.Allopencontainers,i.e.paper,plasticandStyrofoamcups,mustbediscardedpriortoenteringadesignatedschoolfacilityorschool-sponsoredevent.Sealedcontainersmaybecarriedintothebuildingorschool-sponsoredeventbutaresubjecttoinspectionbyschoolofficials.
DRESSCODE(SchoolBoardPolicyJCDB)
1. Allstudentsareexpectedtoobservecertainminimumstandardsofhygiene,
sanitation,andpersonalappearance.Thefollowingregulationsaretobeobservedbyallstudentswhenparticipatinginanyschoolrelatedfunctionoractivitywithexceptionofathleticuniformsduringcompetition.Anystudentviolatinganyoftheseregulationswillbesubjecttoappropriatedisciplinaryaction.Dresscodeviolationsmaybereportedbyateacher,astaffmember,oranadministrator.
Itisvirtuallyimpossibletowritearegulationwhichwilladequatelycovereverydetailofappropriateconductanddress.Therefore,itisnecessaryfortheadministratorofeachschooltomakejudgmentsastowhetherastudentisproperlygroomedanddressedand/orismanifestingappropriatebehaviorastonotcauseadisruptionorinterferencewithschoolactivities.Weareattemptingtoeliminateasmuchconfusionaspossible,soourattentioncanbeturnedtoeducationalpursuits.
2. IfaninfractionofDressCodecausesastudenttobeoutofclassmorethanone-half
oftheclasstime,theabsencewillbeconsideredunexcused.Parentsareencouragedtomonitortheirchild’sadherencetotheDressCodebeforehe/shearrivesatschool.Whenstudentscometoschooldressedappropriately,teachers,administrators,andstaffmembersarebetterabletoimplementtheschooldistrict’seducationalprogram.Inturn,noparentwillbeinconveniencedbyhis/herchild’sviolationoftheDressCode.Itisinthespiritofeducatingstudentsfortheirfuturethatthesestandardsofmodestyandrespectareset.
