4 February, 2019 Week 2, Term 1, 2019
FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK: Dear Parents and Friends of Cawdor PS
Welcome back after what I hope was an enjoyable and restful holiday. With 82
students enrolled at the school we have been able to continue with four classes and
last week the children settled very well into their new classes. Parents are invited
to come along on the evening of Tuesday 12 February to find out more about
the class arrangements and programs for the year—I hope you will be able to
join us on the night.
A special welcome goes to Mrs Ljubica White who will be our librarian this
year, replacing Mrs Darley who has moved to the south coast. We are very
pleased to have Mrs White joining the Cawdor staff.
The level of parental support at the start of this year has already been greatly
appreciated. Many thanks to the P&C members who organised a meet and
greet morning tea for our Kindergarten parents. The morning tea was well
attended and greatly helped to make our new parents feel welcome at the
school. We look forward to seeing many parents at our first P&C meeting this
afternoon. The canteen committee is also off to a great start and is planning to
open the canteen next week.
Our first assembly will be held this Wednesday morning at 9.00 am. The new
Student Councillors, Sports Captains and Enviro Power members will be
presented with their badges at this assembly which will be run by Year 6. This
year, assemblies will be held fortnightly in the even weeks and newsletters will
also be sent home in the even weeks.
Our swimming carnival with Mount Hunter will take place on Thursday this
week. We are looking for parents to help out as officials on the day and to
assist with transporting the children to and from the pool. Please make sure
that the carnival permission notes are returned by Tuesday and that you have
completed all paperwork such as sighting of registrations and car insurance
and working as a volunteer forms, in the office, if you are planning to assist.
Our School Counsellor, Ms Sue Buxton, will resume her visits to Cawdor every
second Thursday morning from Week 3.
At Cawdor we encourage open communication with parents and carers and
the teachers are happy to discuss concerns before and after school unless, for
duty of care reasons, the teacher is on duty or the bell has rung. If a longer
discussion is required please arrange a time for an interview that is convenient
for both yourself and your class teacher.
Looking forward to seeing you at our school events and meetings in the next two
weeks.
Kind Regards, Ms Sharon Ihlein (Principal)

cater for the needs of the children. The four classes are:

From Monday to Thursday there may be some movement of students across classes for literacy and
numeracy groups and Mrs Garbutt and Ms Harter will be working with a range of students and groups each
Tuesday and Thursday morning. The teachers will explain more about these arrangements at the Parent
Information evening on Tuesday 12th February. The purpose of this night is to give parents an overview
of the organisation, programs and plans for their child’s class for 2019. The class teachers will be speaking

website. Parents who are unable to come in to the uniform shop to purchase items can complete an order form and
return it to the office where it will then be passed on to the uniform shop. After payment has been received uniform
orders can be sent home with your child.
