Organization : The Division is headed by Sr. DME(C&W) who is assisted by DME(C&W)/CDO/TKPR, ADME(C&W)/HWH, DME/SYAE and ADME/RPH. At the divisional level, Sr. DEE/G is the overall in charge of electrical activities concerned to the depots. For electrical activities, CDO gets assistance from DEE(Coaching) and AEE/G. Sr. DME(C&W) looks after overall aspects at divisional level. Howrah Division carries the glory of ownership of the first Rajdhani Express introduced over Indian Railways on 3rd March 1969.The first ever journey of India’s superfast full AC train Rajdhani Express from Kolkata, connecting capital to capital, people to people. Rajdhani Express was upgraded to “SWARN” standard from 23rd December 2017 with elegant makeover of existing LHB coaches. The journey of passengers has become comfortable with special type amenity and upgraded services. This year Howrah Division is celebrating the completion of 50 Glorious Years journey of Rajdhani Express on 3rd March 2019.

A. COACHING ACTIVITIES IN DEPOTS i. Tikiapara Coaching Depot DEPOT BRIEF
Tikiapara is one of the oldest and largest Coaching Maintenance Depot on ‘Indian
Railways’.
Total 19 Primary base trains, 04 Round trip (own base) and 05 Foreign Rail
Round Trip trains are being maintained at Tikiapara Coaching Depot.
Total coach holding : 871 coaches.
Maintains prestigious trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi,
Duronto, and Yuva Express.
LHB coaches have been introduced in 07 trains i.e.
Howrah – New Delhi Kolkata Rajdhani Express w.e.f.
Feb ‟06, Howrah – New Delhi Poorva Express w.e.f. 30th
Apr ‟13, Howrah – Ranchi Shatabdi Express w.e.f. 7th

One 2 ton per shift capacity Mechanized Laundry has been
set up at Tikiapara Coaching Depot as a pilot project.
Operation started from 17th
Jan „11. This is 1st in Eastern
Railway. At present, capacity of laundry is 4.5 ton per
shift.
One Under Floor Wheel Lathe was sanctioned in
M&P Programme (2007-08) at a cost Rs 5.05 crore
and has been commissioned at TKPR on 22nd
Jul „10.
Summer special, Durga Puja special are being formed and maintained every year during,
Summer & Durga Puja.
ii. Sorting Yard Coaching Complex DEPOT BRIEF
Coach maintenance started at new coaching complex, Sorting
Yard on 15th
August 2001 with single pit and finally 06 deep
pits were constructed. Covered Shed is provided over
Pit Line No. 1 to 3 with automatic turbo ventilators.
Total 11 Primary base trains, 04 Round Trip
(own base), 04 Round Trip foreign railway and 01
secondary maintenance trains are being
maintained at Sorting Yard Coaching Complex.
Total coach holding: 731 coaches.
For optimum utilization of pits, round the clock maintenance facilities have been
provided.
LHB coaches have been introduced in 02 trains i.e. Himgiri
Express w.e.f. 14th
Aug „18 and Jaisalmer Express w.e.f.
26th
Aug „19.

Bio-toilet Effluent Testing Laboratory has been set up on Sep - 2014 at Sorting Yard Coaching Complex for periodical testing & analyzing of effluent being discharged as per CAMTECH guideline.
First on Eastern Railway to introduce ETP in
Coaching Depot. Capacity – 0.48 mld .
Treated water from ETP is filtered in Recirculation
Plant. Treated water is used for coach washing
purpose for pit lines 4 & 5.
iii. Jheel Siding Coaching Depot DEPOT BRIEF
Most of the Howrah Base Passenger trains and 03 Express trains are maintained at this depot.
Total 07 Primary base trains, 03 Round Trip (own base), 01 Round Trip (own railway)
and 01 Round Trip foreign railway trains are being maintained at Jheel Siding
Coaching Depot
Total coach holding: 188 coaches.
iv. Barddhaman C&W Depot DEPOT BRIEF
02 Passenger trains and 02 Round Trip (own rail) trains are maintained at this depot.
Total coach holding : 31 coaches ART: There is a C&W Brake down gang for assisting ART, based at BWN. Salvaging wagon :
One salvaging wagon has been made by modifying an over aged
BOXN wagon, to serve the en-route wheel loading /unloading
operation including carrying of the wheel set to and from the
spot. Previously unloading/re-loading of wheel set was being
done manually and was not very safe for staff

v. Azimganj C&W Depot DEPOT BRIEF
Azimganj depot carries out Primary maintenance of 02 Passenger rakes and 20 nos. of Round
trip and Turn – round trains are attended at Platform.
Total coach holding : 65 coaches
vi. Rampurhat C&W Depot DEPOT BRIEF
16 nos. of Round trip and Turn – round trains are attended at Platform.
B. FREIGHT ACTIVITIES
Pakur Freight Depot DEPOT BRIEF
Pakur is Freight maintenance depot in Howrah Division.
Types of rake Examination at Pakur freight depot are: CC Rake, Premium Rake & End-
to-End Rakes. Present holding of CCRakes is- 32 Rakes (BOBYN).
PAKUR sick line is equipped with EOT crane (15 T capacity) and has shed with heavy
duty flooring. A & B category unloadable wagons are got repaired at sick line.
ACHIEVEMENTS
i. Retro fitment of Bio-Digester toilet :
All Coaches of TKPR, SYAE, JS, BWN and AZ depot are
running with bio-toilet fitted coaches.
ii. Screen Printing of destination board and belly board at
SYAE depot
31 nos. of primary rakes of different trains are being maintained
at SYAE coaching depot. For proper maintaining of destination
board and belly board, screen printing has been started
departmentally at depot.

iii. Introduction of Utkrisht rake
Train no. 13019 Up Bagh Exp (4 rakes), 12333 Vibhuti Exp (2
rakes), 13023 Gaya Exp (2 rakes), 12327/12369 Upasana
/Kumbh Exp (3 rakes), 13009 Doon Exp (02 rakes), 13007
Toofan Exp (01 rake) and 13043 RXL Exp (01 rake) has been
upgraded to Utkrisht standard during this period.
iv. Conversion of All rake of train no. 12341 UP Agnibeena Express and 12371 UP
Jaishalmer Express to LHB stock
All rake rake of ICF Train No. 12341 UP, HWH-ASN and 12371 Up HWH-JSM Exp
have been replaced by LHB variant coaches. This LHB rake will provide more
comfortable journey to the passengers.
v. Introduction of infotainment system in Rajdhani Express
Infotainment system has been introduced in Rajdhani 1st AC coaches.
This system runs on hotspot.
For this user has to first connect his device with the available „vurail‟
connection on the device. Passengers can enjoy the content of their
interest such as watching movies, listening songs etc in English, Hindi
and regional languages. Kids also can enjoy cartoons, songs etc. content
pertaining to Railways is also available in this facility.
vi. Fitment of Dustbin in Non-AC coaches
Dustbins have been fitted in all lavatories of HWH division based
coaches.
vii. Guard Box in SLRs and Power car in nominated trains
Guard Box fitted in 60 nos. of SLRs fitted of 30 nos. of trains.
viii. Up-gradation of Mechanized Laundry Plant at TKPR Depot:
Capacity of the Mechanized laundry of TKPR has been augmented by a 1.5 ton per shift.
With the augmentation capacity, daily average outturn of the laundry has got increased
from 6T per day to 9T per day.
ix. Introduction of soaking washing system at TKPR Laundry
For removing heavy stained mark such as curry, blood, shoe
polish, oil Greece etc from Bed sheet and pillow covers,
Soaking Washing system with Soaking Tank has been
introduced at TKPR Mechanized Laundry through the
washing agent named “Clax 100L Crystal 33E1(Superior
Performance Detergent Powder )” & “ Deep Cleaning Liquid
Detergent” . After applying of soaking washing system,
percentage of recovery of Bed sheet is 90.31% and percentage
of recovery of Pillow cover is 87.69%.

x. Installation of Condensation plant at Tikiapara
laundry plant
Previously steam was exhausted to atmosphere after its
use in the laundry plant. To reuse the waste steam, a
condensation plant has been installed at TKPR
mechanized laundry plant. The waste steam is being
condensed and fed to the boiler plant which increases the
overall inlet water temperature and finally reduces the
energy consumption of the boiler.
Saving :
HSD Oil : Approx Per day savings – 68.70 Ltrs.
Approx Annual savings – 68.70 X 365 = 25075.50 Ltrs.
HSD fuel cost per ltr – ` 65.68/-
Cost of saving per year – ` 16,46,958.84/-
Water : Approx water deposited in hot water sump per day- 11115 Ltrs.
Approx Annual water saved - 40,56,975 Ltrs.
Water cost per ltr - ` 0.20 (Notional)
Cost of saving per year – ` 8,11,395/-
