Benefits of Storyboard
• Provides easy access to a patient's story, no matter where you are in
their chart.
• Allows access pertinent details quickly, and the ability to dive deeper
in the chart when necessary.
• Adapts content to your job role and setting, yet follows the same
general display pattern.

chart in the following scenarios:
• Ambulatory encounters (Office and Clinic visits)
• Telephone encounters
• Emergency visits
This default version also displays when accessing a chart using the
Patient Look-Up activity.
Open Chart: Activities on Top
To maximize use of widescreen monitors, activity tabs display across the top of the workspace.
Storyboard will display along the left side to the workspace, allowing users quick access to the
patient’s story.
Simplify Activity• Many users will get the auto-simplify workspace window the first time they access a
workspace with Storyboard.
• It is based on your use of Epic, that is collected over a certain period of time.
• The Simplify Activity will appear periodically.
***The user can opt to not take the
auto changes by clicking on the
wrench to go to the customize
activity window and selecting

appears in your activity menu,
saving you some room.
• You will continue to have
access to FYI flags via Chart
Review or the More Activity.
• When you click a difficult airway icon in
Storyboard, a report opens showing
previous anesthesia encounters with a
documented difficult airway complication.
• You can use this section to get a more
complete understanding of the patient's
airway complications.

Show Relevant Providers for
Appointments in Storyboard
A prefix now appears to
show the appointment
provider type.
A cardiologist with a prefix
of "Cardio:" appears for a
procedural appointment.
Clinicians can click the new folder icon in
Storyboard to access the Reconcile Outside
Information activity.
*This icon appears only when a patient has information from outside
sources to reconcile.
The Care Everywhere icon in Storyboard,
which gives access to Care Everywhere
workflows, is gray and blue.
This icon stands out less in Storyboard
because it is a notification about outside
information rather than an alert that needs
immediate action.
Click the new folder icon in Storyboard to access the
Reconcile Outside Information activity. *
When you document a surgical case, you can now look at the Storyboard to see how at risk an
adult patient is for developing a surgical site infection.

Essential Updates
The HCA statuses that appear now have slightly different meanings:
• HCA: Pending now means that patient or proxy has named a health
care agent in MyChart, and that nomination is under review.
• HCA: Needs Review now means that a patient has no active health
care agents, and their capacity to make their own decisions requires
review.

Essential Updates
As before, when a user approves any pending
health care agents and the patient's capacity
to make decisions has been reviewed, the
patient has a status of either
HCA: Active or HCA: Not Active, depending on
whether the health care agent is actively
making decisions for the patient
Because most clinicians don't review socioeconomic history in every encounter, the report that
appears when you click Start Review in Storyboard no longer includes the Socioeconomic
History section. You can still review this information in the Social Determinants topic in the
History activity.
