9 month programme Fully funded by Carbon Trust Requires significant time input by a HE project leader (2

days per week) Aims are to

– Establish current carbon footprint– Change knowledge and attitude about energy and

achieve change– Create a costed and prioritised Strategic Action Plan

for the way forward.

Low Carbon Building Design Advice

40% of energy use is in buildings Buildings we design now will be around til

2050 (IPCC target is -60% by 2050 in order to stabilise CO2 in the atmosphere)

New buildings are a “not to be missed” opportunity

Recent experience shows that public sector buildings can reduce carbon emissions by up to 2/3 by careful attention especially at design stage for minimal increased cost.
