BONE CANCER

Cancer is a disease caused by an uncontrolled division of abnormal cells in a part of the body.

WHAT IS CANCER?

Bone cancer is a malignant tumor, that destroys bone tissues.

They don’t look like or act like bone cancer cells even thought they are inside the bone.

Sometimes the cancer can affect the outside because some bones are hollow.

WHAT IS BONE CANCER?

Osteosarcoma- develops in growing bone tissue. Chondrosarcoma-develops in cartilage. Ewing Sarcoma- develops in immature nerve

tissue in bone marrow.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF BONE CANCER

Researchers have found that there is not a define cause for bone cancer but they have found that Osteosarcoma is most found in people that have had a high dose of external radiation therapy or people with certain anti- cancer drugs.

CAUSE OF BONE CANCER

Primary bone cancer is rare. In Osteosarcoma this mostly common in the

ages of 10 and 19 year old. In Chondrosarcoma occurs mainly in older

adults (over age 40). In ESFT’s occurs mostly in children and

teenagers under the age of 19.

IS BONE CANCER RARE OR NOT?

The symptoms are pain, swelling near the bone. Not all bone cancers cause pain.

SYMPTOMS

X-Rays help show the location, size, and shape of a bone tumor.

A bone scan, which is a test of a small amount of radioactive material is injected through a blood vessel and through the bloodstream.

An angiogram can help show an x-ray of blood vessels.

BONE CANCER DIAGNOSED

Treatment usually involves with surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, cryosurgery.

When you have surgery the surgeon removes the entire tumor.

Chemotherapy is the use of anticancer drugs to kill cancer cells.

Radiation therapy is the use of high energy x-rays to kill cancer cells.

Cryosurgery is the use of liquid nitrogen to freeze and kill cancer cells.

TREATMENT

If you do get surgery I would suggest doctor Francis Joseph Schlueter.

DOCTOR

Q: How many surgery's have you done?

A: I have done at least 25 in the past year

Q: Would you recommend getting check for this if you have random pain?

A: I would say that if you are really concerned about the pain then get it checked out.

Q: Is bone cancer hereditary?

A: I would get my family history back ground checked out because yes you can get it from heritance.
