Access around the campus
Disabled access
Wheelchair users are welcome and
should normally be able to take any
route across the campus.
All buildings have level or ramped
access. Ramped access to Peel Building is
at the rear and entry is by security card,
which will be issued to regular users.
There is an intercom connected to
Maxwell Building 24-hour security
control room for the use of unexpected
visitors. At Allerton and Adelphi
Buildings access is from the car park
areas, rather than from main reception.
All buildings on the campus have lifts
except Chapman, Myers, Venables,
Horlock/Constantine Courts, Business
House and Irwell Valley. However, there
are ‘Jolly Stairclimbers’ in the University
which will enable access around most
buildings without a lift.
In Maxwell Hall there is no lift to the
Balcony level but access to the Main Hall
is via Maxwell Building Level 3 and to
the Lower Hall, from the Well between
the Maxwell Hall and Maxwell Building.
In University House, lifts are available to
all levels.
All buildings on the campus have toilets
adapted for visitors using wheelchairs
except Newton Annexe, Lankester,
Myers and Horlock/Constantine Courts.
At Castle Irwell, Bramall and Matthias
Courts there are no particular facilities
for visitors in wheelchairs and it is
advisable to make enquiries in advance
with the Accommodation Office before
visiting. Reception staff will provide
assistance on site. The Accommodation
Office (T: +44(0)161 295 5457) or
Conference Office (T: +44(0)161 295
5487) will advise on the University’s
residential provision for disabled
persons.
Salford Crescent train station is on
campus, but is not part of the
University. Access to and from the
platform is by stepped ramp.
For further information regarding
disabled access please contact the
Equality & Diversity Office
(T: +44(0)161 295 9000) or the reception
of the building you wish to visit.
Car parking
All University car parks are open and
staffed during weekdays. The Northern,
Frederick Road, Adelphi and Irwell
Valley car parks are also open in the
evenings. Before leaving the Irwell
Place, Northern and Frederick Road
sites, please ensure you obtain a car
parking token.
The School or section you are visiting
will assist you in this. If you are in doubt
as to which car park you should use, call
in at the main barrier nearest the
Maxwell Reception.
Designated disabled parking spaces are
available in Maxwell Building, Faraday
House, Irwell Place car park, Humphrey
Booth House, Adelphi House, Adelphi
Building, Cockroft Building, Horlock
Court, Northern car park, Frederick
Road site and Irwell Valley site.
