The Cadet Training Group was
founded in the summer of 1975
at Vandenberg Air Force Base,
California. In the 33 years since, the
CTG has welcomed and graduated
more than 10,000 cadets into itsranks. As CTG graduates have gone
on to success in their CAP careers, it
is evident they succeed in other areas
of their lives as well. CTG alumni have
gone on to become successfu
leaders in the civilian sector as we
as the Armed Forces of the Unite
States. Former Cadets are now
serving in Iraq, Aghanstan and othe
theaters of operations throughouthe world.
Graduates, we welcome you int
the distinguished ranks of the Cade
Training Group.

The 49th Cadet Training Squadron History
The 49th Cadet Training Squadron o the Cadet Training Group is unique in Cadet Training Group history. No
cadets were ever assigned to the 49th CTS; the number was set aside to honor a ormer member o the Cadet
Training Group.
Cadet Captain Tom Doyle was a Northern Caliornia youth who was a leader in his school and community, a
licensed pilot at age 17 and an outstanding member o the CivilAir Patrol. Cadet Doyle was selected to com-mand the 18th CTS at Fort Ord in the summer o 1980. However, changed personnel requirements resulted
in the activation o only one CTS instead o the three that were planned. Shortly ater the Fort Ord encamp-
ment, Cadet Doyle commanded Delta Flight, 17th CTS at McClellan AFB.
He was a graduate o the USAF Academy. Ater completing training as a ghter pilot, he was stationed with
NATO in Germany. On one grim cloudy day in the spring o 1988 he gave his lie to save the children and
people o the town o Forst.
Returning rom a low level ghter mission, Lieutenant Doyle’s F-16 ghter had a sudden engine ailure over
Forst. He could have bailed out but i he had his jet would have plowed into a school in the town. Instead he
stayed with the aircrat and directed it away rom the people. Having survived two previous in-fight emer-gencies, he knew the odds were against him when he made his decision. Lieutenant Thomas Doyle, USAF,
gave his lie in the crash to save the children and people o Forst.
In 1989, the Cadet Training Group recognized Lieutenant Doyle by naming him, posthumously, as the Com-
mander o the 49th Cadet Training Squadron. The guidon o the 49th Cadet Training Squadron appears on
the Cadet Training Group shield as a reminder o our allen Cadet Training Group hero.

You have graduated
from encampment and are
a member of a very distinct
group. The rst graduating
class was in 1975, and
since then, thousands of
cadets have learned the
importance of Attention to
detail, leadership, honor,teamwork, and pride
in a job well done. You
have truly accomplished
an exceptional feat, one
you can take and affect
every area and individual
in your life, forming
yourselves to become
America’s future leaders.
Continue your success and
congratulations on joining
the ranks of the CTG.
Congratulations on
successfully completing
the 2009 California/Nevada
Wing Joint Encampment!
You have completed a
challenging week that took
you out of your comfort
zone, taught you to push
your limits, learn moreabout yourselves, and how
to work as a member of
a team. I hope that your
accomplishment here will
give you the condence
to try new things in your
CAP home squadron as
well as your personal life.
I look forward to seeing
you at future CAP activities
and hearing about your
successes.
Your basic Encampment
is the beginning of many
difcult tests in your Civil Air
Patrol career. It is a place
of Teamwork, Discipline,
and Success. You signed
a contract to giving 100%
of yourself, and you
followed through with your commitment, leaving here
as a member of the life-
long team. The training
you have acquired here
gives you the ability to take
the next step in achieving
any goal in life. You rst
have to take those steps. I
am proud of you and look
forward to seeing you excel
as future leaders of the
Cadet Training Group.
We pushed your limits
and you became a team in
order to achieve success.
You disciplined yourself,
relied on others, and in
turn, helped others who
needed your help. At the
beginning of the week,
I presented you with achallenge; you overcame
and seized the opportunity
becoming a member of The
Cadet Training Group. I
now present you with a new
challenge and opportunity
– keep pushing yourself
in Civil Air Patrol and
throughout life. Accepting
this challenge will make
many opportunities
available to you.
Congratulations
cadets, you are ofcially
members of the Cadet
Training Group. You have
persevered through all the
hardwork, sweat, tears, and
everything you did over this
week. You will never forget
what you overcame here.Remember these things:
teamwork and discipline
will amount to success.
Also, never let anyone tel
you there is something you
cannot accomplish, and if
anyone does - prove them
wrong every time! Continue
to push yourselves past
your limits. Welcome to
the Cadet Training Group.
Semper Fidelis!

A sincere thank you to Drymax Sport Socks for their generous donation of socks to our
Encampment cadets. Drymax utilizes two different ber technologies interwoven together to
both attract and repel moisture which we are sure prevented more foot related problems for
our cadets at this years Encampment.
