BSU is an organization to provide students a collective voice on campus, provide academic survival, while promoting cultural, social and political awareness.

Black Students United

BSU is moving forward. The Black Students United is a special interest group at, California State University Fresno, aimed at providing a voice for the black community.

Mission Statement Part 1Black Students United was created to provide cultural awareness on the Fresno State campus, and its surrounding communities. It is open to people of all ethnic backgrounds. The club ultimately focuses on informing students, faculty, staff and other communities about the history and everyday issues about the people of African disapora.

Mission Statement 2We sponsor social, educational and community activities that allow students to network, have new experiences, and better enjoy their college experience. Overall, just like any other campus club, Black Students United strive to be a part of the rewarding college experience.

The BDXThe BDX is the entertainment aspect of the BSU. Black Students united dance express. BDX began in the fall of 2008 and seeks to express themselves through various types of dance and music. BDX is under the direction of Mikeisha Tresvant.

A Brief History LessonThe BSU was founded in the spring semester of 2005. It was established by four students to foster community development by raising awareness of social issues that surround the community.

History cont.BSU serves as a forum to voice community needs through educational and community events. The BSU is a student run organization that advocate cultural and intellectual as well as social change to people of the African descent. They are committed to promoting unity between all ethnicities, genders, and sexual orientations.

EventsThe BSU has promoted and thrown many events to reflect their voice in the community. Some are Africana culture night and Brother to Sister, they have had guest speakers and performers.

Events cont. Black Student mixers,70’s disco and hip hop night, essay contest and scholarship as well as many others.

Black History MonthAlthough Black History month was in Feb. the BSU feels that promoting cultural events shouldn’t stop then. As mentioned before the BSU provides a voice for people of African descent but also recognizes the diversity of others and has an open policy about its members.
