What do you think an insect is?

• Insects have three main body parts: head, thorax, abdomen

•Insects have three pairs of legs

•Pair of antennae on top of their head

•Two pairs of wings. Some insects however, do not have fully developed wings for flying

I will show you some pictures; Some are insects and some are

not.

Is this centipede an insect?

No, a centipede is not an insect.

It has more than three pairs of legs.

It does not have three main body parts.

Is a lady bug an insect?

Yes, a ladybug is an insect.

Is a spider an insect?

No, a spider is not an insect.

A spider has eight legs and two body segments.

Is a praying mantis is an insect?

Yes, a praying mantis is an insect.

It has three body segments.

Is a scorpion an insect?

No, a scorpion is not an insect.

Scorpion's have eight legs.

Scorpion's have a pair pincers.

Are beetles insects?

Yes, beetles are insects.

Beetles have 6 legs.
