th October, 1917.
He was only a Private in battle, A part of the great rank and file; But we at home remember The day he left us with a smile. He laid down his life for his Country, In response to his dear country’s call; Australia is proud of our hero, Who was only a Private, that’s all. Inserted by his loving mother, and brother Dave.
