Brown + Brown Architects are
an award winning design-led
architecture practice, based in
Aberdeen and Inverness, with a
passion for materials, detail and
craftsmanship.
Our architecture is strongly
influenced by ‘place’; and by
exploring the qualities which
each individual site brings we are
able to experiment with form and
materiality, to create buildings which
sit comfortably within their context
and enhance their surroundings.
Our work has been published
internationally, appearing in
magazines as far afield as South
Africa, Italy, Germany and the U.K.,
and we are consistently ranked
among the top architecture
practices in Scotland.

context
Brown + Brown Architects are committed to designing contemporary
and sustainable buildings that are suitable for their site, client, users
and budget. With a specific interest in contextual architecture, as well
as exploring contemporary interpretations of vernacular Scottish
architecture, we understand the value and importance of creating
spaces that are not only beautiful but functional.
We firmly believe that we have a responsibility to use local materials
and skills in our buildings to ensure that they are truly a product of
their surroundings. Our approach to working in this way also aims to
reduce transport costs for materials and reduce the carbon footprint
for the construction process.
We have a proven track record of expertise in the design and delivery
of contemporary buildings. This includes sensitive locations, such
as within the curtilage of listed buildings, in conservation areas
designated as outstanding, and in areas of exceptional rural beauty.
Our process allows us to create buildings and spaces that deliver a high
level of synergy between old and new.
We were delighted that our expertise was recognised by The
Cairngorms National Park in 2016 when they awarded one of our
projects both Best New House, and Best Building Overall, for the period
2012-2016.

sustainability
At Brown + Brown Architects, we believe that we have a responsibility to minimise our carbon
emissions, and that good design should be sustainable by its very nature. This ethos is embedded
in our design approach, which shuns ‘buzzwords’ and quick-fix approaches, in order to create
buildings which are truly sustainable and enhance the lives of their users.
We have experience designing and delivering low energy buildings, including zero-heating dwellings
which achieve PassivHaus Standards of airtightness, insulation and energy consumption, and
incorporate appropriate renewables.
Brown + Brown Architects are members of the Scottish Ecological Design Association (SEDA).

Brown + Brown Architects create
and deliver stunning, sustainable
and contemporary houses that are
tailored to the specific requirements
of our clients. Our sympathetic and
measured approach to each site and
project means we design and create
buildings that sit comfortably in their
surroundings.
Our contextual buildings combine
contemporary aesthetics whilst
working to budget considerations,
in a sensitive approach which
provides our clients with the
buildings they desire, and
which can continue to meet their
needs for many years to come.

“Brown + Brown designed
the renovation for our house
in Aberdeen. They presented
several different options with
planning regulations for the
listed property in mind. They
listened to our ideas and
input, and created something
that worked for us. We are
very happy with the result.
Highly recommended.”
