Breakfast Around The World

Canada (North/South America)

Canadian BreakfastAn average breakfast in Canada can vary by each family. The standard

American meal of eggs, toast, and bacon is prepared by many people, but Canada is know for its maple syrup. As a result, many Canadians eat pancakes or waffles drenched in either real or fake maple syrup for breakfast.

Poland (Western Europe)

Polish BreakfastAn average Polish breakfast will often contain a meat or jam sandwich along

with a beverage, such as coffee or juice. Polish coffee is quite different from ours. It is extremely strong and is often brewed by mixing ground coffee and hot water; no filters involved. Sometimes the meal may also be supplemented by eggs, fruit, salad, or Muesli, a common breakfast cereal.

Russia (Eastern Europe/Western Asia)

Russian BreakfastAn average Russian breakfast usually contains a variety of breads, especially

black bread, a kind of rye often associated with Russia. Sausage, eggs, and pickles are used to compliment the bread, while Kasha (cereal) is a common choice for children. Most Russians drink hot tea for their beverage, but coffee is also drank by many.

Japan (Eastern Asia)

Japanese BreakfastA traditional Japanese breakfast usually contains rice, soup, and green tea.

This is no surprise, considering the Japanese word for breakfast, ‘sa-gohan’, literally translates to ‘morning rice’. However, our society has clearly made an impact on Japan, as most people now eat a western style breakfast, including eggs, toast, and a beverage (usually juice or coffee).

Egypt (Africa)

Egyptian BreakfastA typical Egyptian breakfast has much in common with an average middle

eastern breakfast, often containing many kinds of bread and a beverage (tea or coffee). Egyptians are also known to eat a speciality called ful medames, a dish consisting of beans served with olive oil, parsley, onion, garlic, and lemon juice.
